Flat Rock, Michigan—March 16, 2012: The unexpected passing of the legendary Joy Fair December 10, 2011 at the age of 81, took most by surprise, as his was truly a “larger than life” presence. Fair was one of the top short track racers in the country, amassing over 800 career feature victories around the Midwest in his lifetime. Joy was a 10-time Flat Rock Speedway champion and 7-time Toledo Speedway champ and is the all-time win leader at both tracks.

...TOLEDO HOLDS ON, 2012 FRIDAY NIGHT OPENER IN THE BOOKS
(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 4, 2012) - Despite an early afternoon rain, Toledo Speedway held out, the rain drifted away and the first Friday night race of the season was held. Ron Allen, Greg Studt, Michael Marlow and 16 year old Kyle Huston posted victories and visited the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle. The new lighting system was superb, adding to the new grandstand construction at the 1/2 mile paved oval.
The 35 lap ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman feature saw a complete restart when several cars got together in turn 3. Dave Arnold Jr. motored into the lead at the green when the race got started. A quick yellow saw the new double-file restart procedure in place and put Howard Kelley Jr. side by side with Dave. The duo ran door to door for 3 tours until Kelley nosed into the lead. Ron Allen followed Howard and the battle was on. The duo used all the asphalt until Allen dove to the bottom on lap 15 to take the lead and pull away to grab the victory. Jim Froling made a late charge to take second, Kelley Jr. third, Arnold Jr. fourth and Kyle DeLisle fifth, followed by Mike Young, Norm Lewallen, Kenny McKay Jr., Jeff King and Greg Stilwell. Allen set quick time for the 19 car field at 17:299. Heat winners were Arnold Jr. and Dave Frantz.

First I have a correction. Eric Lee’s sponsors are: Fraza Forklifts, Dusty's Collision, Exotic Automation, First Impressions Cement, ABC Plumbing, Berringer Law, Duane's Roadrunner's ... I had them wrong after the Spartan race.
Dennis Strickland won his first feature of the year. “We had worked all week trying to get the car back to where it was before the race at Spartan, up late every night. Both quarter panels were replaced as well as the front filler panel. Tina cut all the vinyl up and had it ready sitting on the counter in the garage. We have a new puppy (Missi) and you would think we would know better than to leave the vinyl UNattended. But here it was 9:30 in the morning of the race and Tina had to re-cut almost all of it. Some we put on with tooth marks and all. On the way to Flatrock, I said you know with all the bad luck we have had lately maybe we will win tonight, and we did. First time ever I won the heat race and the feature!” said Dennis in an email... His sponsors are: Canton Tree Cement, Strategy One Computers, Trenton Forging, Victory Christian Fellowship Church and Giles Auto Body.

This story will not do this race justice—you really need to talk to the fans that were at Flat Rock to witness this incredible race.
And Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway, the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models put on perhaps the best race in years for the division at the fast and extremely competitive ¼ mile paved oval. Grand Rapids, MI driver Mike Root charged to the front after dropping back as far as 20th and powered by Harold Fair Jr. and then Scott Hantz on the high side with 3 laps to go to win the sensational Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 in front of an excellent crowd on a perfect evening.
