(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - June 9, 2012) - A good crowd ventured to Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night for the Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales Kids Night.  Each child to age 14 was admitted free of charge and received a free hot dog, chips and a drink, courtesy of Sherwood Foods, Jim’s Butcher Shop, the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group and Herr’s Potato Chips.  Jerry Lee, Rich Frantz, Rich Abel and Jeff Wells Jr. captured feature event wins.

Dennis Strickland won his first feature of the year. “We had worked all week trying to get the car back to where it was before the race at Spartan, up late every night. Both quarter panels were replaced as well as the front filler panel. Tina cut all the vinyl up and had it ready sitting on the counter in the garage. We have a new puppy (Missi) and you would think we would know better than to leave the vinyl UNattended. But here it was 9:30 in the morning of the race and Tina had to re-cut almost all of it. Some we put on with tooth marks and all. On the way to Flatrock, I said you know with all the bad luck we have had lately maybe we will win tonight, and we did. First time ever I won the heat race and the feature!” said Dennis in an email... (FLAT ROCK, Michigan - June 20, 2012) - As a tribute to the memory of Joy Fair, a special memorial decal will be available at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday for the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 at Flat Rock Speedway.  Fair’s long-time friend, Rand Thompson, is conducting the sale of the decals.  To date, $1000 has been donated to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Joy.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - June 21, 2012) - Flat Rock Speedway’s Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 pre-entry list has grown to 30 cars as of Thursday morning.  The Saturday, June 23 event will pay tribute to the late Fair, who passed away in December of 2011.  Fair is Flat Rock’s all-time win leader with 159 victories and 10 track championships.

4-time Flat Rock champion Dave Kuhlman, one of Fair’s chief rivals in the 1980’s, has re-surfaced and will be at the track to compete in the 100 lap feature race.  Dave sat out last season due to his work schedule, but has prepped his car for Saturday’s contest.  Additional entries have arrived from Danny Slater, Jim Bailey, Derrick Sheppard and Jeff Plumb.  Brent Jack and Mike Young have withdrawn from the race, but the field still stands at 30 machines.

The Midgets completed 5 set of hot laps by 5 p.m.  

The temperature has dropped, there is a light breeze--a great night for racing!  The skies are clearing to the west, and the Silver Crown cars are getting in line for their practice.  Time trials will follow...we are still anticipating a 7:30 p.m. start tonight!

Toledo, Ohio—July 12, 2012:  In a mutual decision among both the Buckeye 305 Sprint Car tour and Toledo Speedway, the Friday, August 10 show has been cancelled at the Glass City oval.  The group has experienced short fields for several events this season and the decision has been made to cancel the race at Toledo.

“We have been in constant communication with the Buckeye 305 Sprint Series for several weeks regarding the Toledo race,” said Scott Schultz, General Manager of Toledo.  “The group has had short fields for several of their races and it was agreed that it was in the best interest of the Series and Toledo Speedway and its fans to cancel this event.”

“With that said, we have confidence in the group and we will begin discussions this fall regarding booking dates for the 2013 season at both Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways,” added Schultz.  “We will continue to work with the series.”

With the cancellation, Toledo track management will make a schedule adjustment.  The Figure 8 Train Race, originally set for the August 3 date, will now move to Friday, August 10.

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 13, 2012) - As promised, Santa Claus made good on the delivery of over 60 prizes that were handed out in the annual Christmas In July promotion Friday evening at Toledo Speedway.  The Jolly Old Elf was at the track to greet fans young and old.  Velvet Ice Cream and Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales served as sponsors of the night of racing at the Glass City track.

 

Jim Froling, Cory McCaughey, Scott Apperson and Kyle Trinklein took the feature wins and received their trophies in the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle from Gene Little of Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 14, 2012) - Tadek Stadniczuk pocketed over $1400 for his win in Saturday night’s ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock 100 lap main event at Flat Rock Speedway. Santa Claus was on hand for the track’s annual Christmas in July prize giveaway, as over 50 prizes were given out to the fans.  Troy Brehmer edged out Rick Bennett to win a great 30 lap Street Stock B Main race, while Greg Studt held off a strong, strong run by Gary Cronenwett to win the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature race.

The track’s Street Stock class, regarded as one of the most competitive groups in the area, had 39 cars in the pit area for their biggest race of the season.  Rich Frantz set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time with a lap of 13:452, while Joe Haener was the B Main fast qualifier at 14:098.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 28, 2012) - It’s a race that will be talked about for a long, long time.  5 different leaders, side by side, sometimes 3-wide racing and just great action from the front to the back.  A stellar field and superb driving by the entire 24 car field set the stage and wrote the book on what race fans come to see at the local short tracks across the nation every summer weekend.  This story will not do this race justice—you really need to talk to the fans that were at Flat Rock to witness this incredible race.

And Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway, the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models put on perhaps the best race in years for the division at the fast and extremely competitive ¼ mile paved oval.  Grand Rapids, MI driver Mike Root charged to the front after dropping back as far as 20^th and powered by Harold Fair Jr. and then Scott Hantz on the high side with 3 laps to go to win the sensational Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 in front of an excellent crowd on a perfect evening.  Dick Barker, representing Moran Chevy, presented the Gold Cup to Mike, while Ann Yee awarded Root the 5 foot Stan Yee Memorial trophy in victory lane ceremonies.  The 150 lap race was also leg number 5 of the ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series.

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 24, 2012) - Sunshine and blue skies greeted race fans and teams for Friday’s Glass Bowl Lanes Season Championships and Autograph Night at Toledo Speedway.  Ron Allen, Dennis Whisman, Kyle Huston and Perry Marlow were crowned the 2012 track champions.  Jim Froling, Gary Cronenwett, Huston and Jeff Wells Jr. captured the feature events of the evening and visited the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle.  The fans took part in the on-track autograph session prior to the start of the race card.  The track also hosted Armed Forces Night, with all military personnel admitted as guests for Friday’s event.

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 30, 2012) - A strong entry list filled with many of the top Super Late Model drivers of the Midwest is assembling for the ARCA/CRA 7-Up 125 Saturday night, September 8 at Flat Rock Speedway.  The 2-groove, ¼ mile paved oval is hosting the Series for the first time.  Big Wheel races for kids 12 and under will take place prior to the show, while the track’s 300 lap Enduro Championship race will get the green flag following the 7-Up 125.

Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 9 a.m.:  The rain stopped at Flat Rock Speedway around 7 a.m., the skies are beginning to break and it's full speed ahead for tonight's 7-Up 125 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Late Models and the track's 300 lap Enduro championship race!

This is the first appearance ever for this touring series at "The Rock".  The stock-bodied Late Models will be led by current point leader Johnny VanDoorn.  Kenzie Ruston, one of the top female stock car drivers in the nation, tested last week at the track and is ready to go.

Veteran Scott Hantz is expected to be strong, along with Terry Fisher Jr.  Flat Rock driver Stan Yee Jr. is entered, along with former Flat Rock racer and ARCA Truck Series champ Paul Hahn, both of whom have hundreds of laps under their belts at the track.

The 300 lap Enduro championship promises to be filled with excitement as 5 drivers still have a shot at the Enduro title.  Matt Ringger holds the cards for the championship going into the final race, which is 50 laps longer than the traditional Enduro races.  This calls for strategy, as many drivers will have to pit for fuel, throwing more interest and drama into the mix!

Practice begins at 3:30, time trials are at 5, Big wheel races for kids 10 and under are at 6, an on-track autograph session with the ARCA/CRA drivers takes place at 6:30 and racing begins at 7 p.m.

If you are headed to Toledo Speedway today for the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200, be aware of construction on I-75.

In Michigan, I-75 south from I-275 (exit 20) to LaPlaisance Road (Exit 11) is down to 1 lane.  Telegraph Road is an alternate should you want to avoid this mess.  Telegraph Road is also under construction in Monroe, so be prepared!

In Ohio, I-75 North from exit 205 to 208, is also under construction, down to 1 lane.  

The Michigan notice of down to 1 lane was just announced yesterday---sorry!  Race time is 5 p.m. tonight!  Give yourself extra time!

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 29, 2012) - Wayland, MI driver Terry Senneker made a great save on lap 173, then took the lead for the first time with just 4 laps to go when race leader Steve Needles engine let go, paving the way to the win for Terry at the 24^th running of the Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 Late Model race Saturday night at Toledo Speedway.  Meloney Lojko and her son, Brandon, representing Great Lakes Helicopter, presented the 5 foot trophy to Terry in the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle.

Perhaps the strongest field in several years assembled for the event, with 33 cars on the grounds.  A total of 32 cars started the 200 lap grind, the longest race of the season for the outlaw-bodied Late Models.  Mike Luberda withdrew from the race after having engine trouble during Friday’s practice session.  Track record holder JR Roahrig lowered his mark in the PASSTIME time trials, clicking off a lap of 14:628 to set a new 1 lap record and picking up the $500 bonus.  JR pulled the 10 chip for the inversion, putting North Carolina driver Brad Rogers and Johnny Belott on the front row.

The Thursday night Placer's Car Club Classic Car Shows held at Toledo Speedway have concluded for the 2012 season.

The club met last night and decided to call an end to the events, which are held the first 3 Thursdays of each month.

Details regarding the 2013 car shows will be announced at a later date.
