BREAKING: CorvetteParts.net Glass City 200 Trophy Revealed

The brand new trophy for the CorvetteParts.net Glass City 200, the Koester Cup trophy, has been released ahead of Saturday’s race.

The Koester Cup namesake comes from Herb Koester, who built Toledo Speedway from a tomato farm in 1960.

In 1960, Koester and associate Jim Bournes conceived the track’s current ½ mile length and Koester operated it as a dirt track for two seasons prior to paving in 1962. By 1964, John Marcum and his ARCA organization promoted races at Toledo and did so through the 1978 season. Thomas “Sonny” Adams bought the track from Koester and operated it from 1979 through 1998, when Roy Mott and Ron Drager acquired the facility from Adams and restored the ARCA identity which exists today.

The blown glass on top of the trophy is derived from the history of Toledo as the Glass City, born out of Toledo’s namesake as the fountainhead of the glass industry. The city’s history in glass is as impactful as it is historic, and is forever a proud feather in the cap of the 419.

Two trophies have been created for the race this year, one to be presented to the winner and a “keeper” trophy - one that will be kept with Toledo Speedway for safekeeping and presentation into the future.

The new trophy for the keeper trophy stand lists the names of every Glass City 200 winner. From 1968 through its 35th running in 2023, the greats of auto racing have come to compete in this huge late model event, with a storied list of winners. Joy Fair’s win in 1968 is listed front and center as the first winner of the event, and 2023 winner Jesse Love will have a new name beside his after this weekend. The trophy will be updated yearly with new winners.

The Koester Cup was created in partnership between Toledo Speedway, trophy manufacturer Sylvan Studio, and race sponsor Keen Parts/Corvetteparts.net.
