7-time Toledo Late Model champion Joy Fair is pictured with ARCA boss and Toledo promoter John Marcum, in 1967. Joy was unstoppable, capturing the titles in 1967-1972. Joy was injured in an accident at Toledo in 1973 and sat out a better part of the season while on the road to recovery. Joe Ruttman took over the driving duties of the Ford Maverick and went on a tear across the Midwest, pretty much winning every time out. Fair came back in 1974 and claimed the track championship….again…
Fair’s #1 is retired from ARCA Late Model competition and notched 97 wins on the ½ mile during his stellar career.
Check out Dick Huston’s #81 Figure 8 car, circa 1966! Dick was the 1966, 1967 and 1968 ARCA Figure 8 champion at Toledo Speedway. Huston still gets to the track for a majority of the races.
