TOLEDO’S NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION TOPS IN ENTERTAIMENT!
Toledo, Ohio—June 3, 2016: For anyone that missed Friday night’s Monroe Superstore Night of Destruction at Toledo Speedway, it was a dandy! Right from the start of the show, the large crowd was treated to a great night of fun, entertainment and laughs all the way to the grand finale’, the School Bus Figure 8 races. Monroe Superstore boss Ralph Mahalak Jr. greeted the crowd in pre-race festivities and thanked the fans for their support.
A wild, bump, run, push and spin 20 lap ARCA Factory Stock Figure 8 feature was filled with action! A total of 3 drivers took turns out front with the lead. A great battle between Jacob Thomas and Cory McCaughey saw plenty of fender-banging and paint trading as the duo ran door to door for several laps battling for the lead. McCaughey got Thomas sideways and took over, but Thomas stormed back for another shot at the point. As the lead pair used up a bunch of race track, rookie Derek Hulka zoomed by, took the number 1 spot and went on to the victory. McCaughey, Thomas, Craig Osenbaugh, Mike Miller, Danny Gaddis, Tom O’Leary IV and Mark Lavoie completed the finishing order. Hulka and Gaddis took the heat race wins.
The ARCA Victory Lane Oil Change Figure 8 division staged their 20 lap feature on the Figure 8 course. Dennis Whisman Sr.zipped out front and was sailing along with a comfortable lead, but Dave Lambert looped his machine and then rolled back down the track into the path of Whisman, allowing Dan Apperson to slide by and take the point. Dan then held off the challenge of Jeremy Vanderhoof to score the win. Whisman recovered for third, David Katafiasz was fourth and Randy Roberts fifth, followed by Ricky Ferrell, Dennis Whisman Jr., Travis Earley, Dave Lambert, John Lambert and AJ Padgett. Apperson and Whisman Sr. were the heat race winners.
A total of 4 cars were right there battling for the win in the Flag Pole race, and Dennis Whisman Jr. just nosed out Craig Osenbaugh for the victory. The event features 2 tires, one in the front straight and one in the back straight. Each lap, the drivers must circle the tires to complete a lap. The top 4 were all in pack rounding the first tire on the last lap. Whisman Jr. his father Dennis Sr. and McCaughey got crossed up, as Osenbaugh shot into the lead. The young Whisman broke loose and caught Craig rounding the back stretch tire. The duo ran door to door through the final corner with Whisman just inches ahead of Osenbaugh at the stripe. Whisman Sr., McCaughey, Gaddis, Trina Apperson, Dave Lambert, Lavoie, John Lambert, Miller, Padgett, Earley and Eugene Worden were next in line at the finish.
Mark Lavoie took the Boat Figure 8 race over Osenbaugh, McCaughey, Padgett, Gaddis and Earley. Cory McCaughey’s full-throttle approach netted him the Race Car Bowling championship. 16 year old Travis Earley teamed with 15 year old Dennis Whisman Jr. to win the Figure 8 Train race over Eric Heuschele/Paul Heuschele, Randy Roberts Jr./Troy Herrmann and Trina Apperson/Anthony Snorf.
While Terrible Terry Smith got his bus over on its side twice, and Joey Koester, aka Awful Knawful also rolled his bus, Billy Earley motored around the debris and wrecks to take the School Bus Figure 8 race. AJ Padgett, Brett Miller, Dennis Whisman and Jack Franzil were the other drivers as the group slammed into each other. The race had several near-rolls in addition to the 3 rollovers.
