THROW-BACK THURSDAY! February 25, 2016

The Glass City 200 Late Model invitational has a history of a surprise entry or two each season. In 1972, Artie Sommers showed up in David King's #9 Camaro. The duo teamed for the event, where Sommers won the first consi of the day and advanced to the 200.
Artie was known for his talents on the dirt as well as the asphalt and drove for the late Stan Yee among others during his career. King was one of several names that began showing up at Toledo in the early 70's with Late Models. David would go on to team with Joe Ruttman in the next few seasons. Jack Roush, Gary Pratt and Charlie Selix are just a few of the individuals to move on from weekend short track racing to the higher ranks, Roush with NASCAR, while Pratt and Selix were prevalent in road racing events.
Sommers was always a strong contender during his driving days and collected 8 Toledo wins, along with a single victory at Flat Rock.
