TOLEDO SPEEDWAY THROWBACK THURSDAY
The legendary Joe Ruttman is seen in the pit area (in the infield) at Toledo Speedway in 1970. Ruttman’s brother, Troy, won the Indy 500 in 1952. Joe was a very strong competitor in the Midwest for many years, and competed not only in the Late Model division, but ARCA, USAC and eventually rose to the top--the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. His resume is filled with accomplishments from the start to the finish of his illustrious career.
Locally, Joe won a pair of Glass City 200’s—in 1969 and then again in 1973, a victory in Joy Fair’s Ford Maverick car. Ruttman subbed for Fair after he was injured during the summer of that year, and the duo racked up win after win across the Midwest in Late Model competition. He captured 17 wins at Toledo and 6 at Flat Rock among his countless feature wins. He currently resides in Florida and served as the Grand Marshal of the Glass City 200 in 2014.
