'Click It or Ticket' program launches at Toledo Speedway

(TOLEDO, Ohio – May 15, 2015) – Toledo Speedway served as the backdrop this morning for the kickoff of the 2015 Click It or Ticket program in Ohio. The program is aimed at increasing safety belt awareness and getting people to buckle up.

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver Kenny Schrader was part of the kickoff at the half-mile speedway, site of this weekend’s Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care. Schrader said wearing a seat belt shouldn’t be an option.

“I’m a firm seat belt user,” Schrader said. “I have been stopped numerous times by law officials from all over the country, but not having my seat belt on has never been a problem.”

The Lucas County Traffic Safety Program launched the 2015 program today. ARCA President Ron Drager was also a speaker.

“Motorists are 75 percent less likely to die in a crash if they are buckled in,” said Neundorfer. “Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped to save thousands of lives.”

More than a dozen area police officers, from the Ohio State Highway Patrol to the City of Toledo to numerous other area police agencies, were on hand at the track.

“In 1986, Ohio passed its seat belt law,” Neundorfer said. “At that time, seat belt use was approximately 14 percent. We’ve made vast improvements, but the current 67 percent usage rate in Lucas County (Ohio) is deplorable. Too many of our folks are dying in crashes because they make the choice to not buckle up.”
