Kenseth excited about return to Toledo

(TOLEDO, Ohio – April 10, 2014) – Ross Kenseth is hoping to erase the memories of the last time he raced at Toledo Speedway. The son of NASCAR Sprint Cup championship driver Matt Kenseth is entered in this weekend’s 7UP 150 Border Wars, the second annual combination ARCA/CRA Super Series and ARCA Midwest Tour event at Toledo.
In his only other visit to Toledo, Kenseth was driving in an ASA-North race at the half-mile oval when he worked his way into second place.
“Then, we wrecked,” he said. “I’m hoping for a little better outcome this time.”
Saturday will be the second time that Kenseth, 20, has raced in a combination ARCA/CRA and ARCA Midwest Tour race, having run in the Border Wars II last season at Madison International Speedway. He’s a veteran late model driver having entered – and won – races all over the country.
“They do a good job with the cars and the race,” Kenseth said. “With all of the drivers and the caliber of drivers that are entered in this race at Toledo, it’s going to be a lot of fun. Toledo is a racy track. I’m real excited to be going back there.”
Kenseth, a native of Wisconsin, raced at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida in February and in Alabama in a late model race last month. He won some of the biggest late model races in the country in 2012, including races at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, Nashville Raceway and Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. He made his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut last year at Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, winning the pole.
This year, Kenseth said he is putting a big effort into his late model program. He’s racing with the Mike Blackmer Boyne Racing team.
“After this week, I have nothing set in stone,” he said. “I’m hoping to be able to get into a couple of ARCA Racing Series events and see how that goes. Right now, I’m just excited about the 7UP 150 and racing at Toledo Speedway.”
The entry list includes cars from both ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA/CRA Super Series. Drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada already dot the list. Thirty cars will start the race.
The annual 7-UP 150 will kick off Friday, April 11 with an open practice from 3:00 p.m. to 7. Pits will open at 11:00 with hauler parking and tech following at 1. At 7:30, there will be a dinner at the Toledo Speedway Bar/Grille for all pit pass purchasers. Additional dinners will be available for $10 per plate.
Pit Gates open Saturday, April 12 at 8 a.m. with practice from 10 to 11:30. Qualifying will begin at 1. The race program begins at 3 with 15-lap last chance races, followed by an on track autograph session. The 7-UP 150 will follow, featuring 150 laps of green flag racing with a 10 minute break at lap 76.
