CAMPBELL, FAIR ADD NAMES TO GLASS CITY WINNER’S LIST
CAMPBELL, FAIR ADD NAMES TO GLASS CITY WINNER’S LIST
His first win at Toledo Speedway was a big one, as Brian Campbell put his name in the books as a Glass City 200 winner. Driving the #47, the same number his father, Fred, drove for many, many years, Brian set fast time at 15:157 for the 39 car field and sailed to victory in the 2007 edition of the event. Mike Luberda Jr. and Rick Sheppard took the heat races. Rookie A.J. Lane captured the B Main event. Lane moved into the 200 field by virtue of his win also.
Brent Jack powered into the lead for the first 43 laps before tangling with a lapped car, sending him to the tail of the field. Steve Sauve, as always in the hunt for a win, grabbed the lead from Claude Plante Jr. Sauve had company from Campbell as they neared the lap 101 break, with Sauve taking the field to pit road with the lead, followed by Campbell.
After the 20 minute break, Campbell was up to the task and he zoomed by Sauve on lap 124. Brent Jack worked his way back into contention after the early altercation and battled Sauve for a long stretch of green flag racing as Brian flew to the victory. Sauve edged out Jack for second, fourth was John Doering Jr. and fifth went to Dave Kuhlman, who recovered from an early incident.
After several years of a shot at the win in the Glass City 200, Harold Fair Jr. made the 2008 race all his, taking his initial win of the event. The race was cut back to 150 laps for this year. The race was Fair’s 8th attempt, of which he had led 4 of those races. 35 cars showed for the race, with Joe Bush setting quick time at 15:091. Jake Francis jumped into the lead over Johnny Belott and Fair Jr. in the early stages. Fair sliced his way through the field and got by Francis on lap 63 to take the lead and hold it until the lap 76 break over Francis, Brent Jack, Dave Kuhlman and Belott.
Fair checked out early in the second part of the event, as Brian Campbell ran out of time as he tried to catch the fleet Fair Jr. and ended up second. Francis, Ron Allen and John Doering Jr. completed the top 5.
