FAIR JR. LEADS ENTRY LIST FOR SATURDAY’S DIAMOND RACING PRODUCTS JOY FAIR MEMORIAL 100 AT FLAT ROCK

(FLAT ROCK, MI - June 18, 2013) - A total of 20 entries have been received to date for the Joy Fair Memorial 100, sponsored by Diamond Racing Products for this Saturday, June 22 at Flat Rock Speedway.  Defending race winner Harold Fair Jr. (no relation to Joy) leads the list of early entries for the prestigious race, which is expected to draw 25-30 of the top outlaw Late Model drivers from the Tri-state area and Canada.  The race is part of the ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series.

Fair is considered as one of the legendary drivers in the history of short track racing, amassing over 800 wins in a career that spanned 6 decades.  Joy is the all-time win leader at Flat Rock with 159 victories and 10 track championships, and his record at Toledo, Flat Rock’s sister track, is nearly as impressive.  The driver of the school-bus yellow number 1 captured 97 Toledo wins and netted 7 track titles, not to mention hundreds of wins and more championships at tracks in several states and Canada during his illustrious career.

Flat Rock unveiled the naming of the Joy Fair Grandstand late last season. Members of Joy’s family will attend the event and take part in pre- and post-race ceremonies to honor his memory.  Fair passed away in December of 2011 at the age of 81.

Fair Jr. is a threat to win anytime he hits the track.  The second-generation driver took top honors for the Gold Cup Series in 2007 and 2008.  4-time Flat Rock champ Eric Lee, 3-time track king Paul Pelletier, 2013 Flat Rock opening night winner and defending Gold Cup champion Dakota Carlson, 2013 Toledo Gold Cup winner Scott Hantz, 2007 Flat Rock and 2011 Gold Cup champion Dennis Strickland and 2-time Gold Cup champ Mike Root are just some of the drivers that have already entered Saturday’s 100 lap classic.  A complete list of the current entries follows.

The event is race number 2 of the ARCA Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series, made up of 6 races for the 2013 season.   Scott Hantz won the opener at Toledo back on May 10.  The remaining ARCA Glass City Gold Cup events include the Charlie Ryan Memorial 100 Sunday, June 30 at the Spartan Speedway near Lansing, MI, the Parts Galore 100 lap race at Toledo Friday, July 12, the Saturday, July 27 Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 and the Series concludes at Toledo Friday, August 16 for the Miller Lite 100, a combination point race with the Main Event Racing Series.

The Flat Rock race will be taped by the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) and will be televised on the Toledo-area local cable access channel Sunday, June 23 as part of the “Sunday Night at the Races” show at 9 p.m.  The telecast will also be available on-demand and can be ordered by going to www.bcsn.tv.

The ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8’s and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will also be in action Saturday night.  The pit area opens at 1:30, practice begins at 3, the front gates open at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.

All seating is general admission for the race.  There is no advance sale.  Flat Rock Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, just 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480.  Log onto www.flatrockspeedway.com for further updates and information.  You can like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/toledflatrock or follow us on Twitter @flatrockspeed.
