CAN MSA SUPER MODS GET IN 9 SECOND BRACKET? $999 BONUS UP AT FLAT ROCK

CAN MSA SUPER MODS GET IN 9 SECOND BRACKET? $999 BONUS UP AT FLAT ROCK

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - May 15, 2013) - In 2012, for the first time in 31 years, a Super Modified class competed at Flat Rock Speedway’s ¼ mile paved oval.  The Midwest Super Modified Association (MSA) tour was led by Ravenna, Ohio’s Trent Stephens.  Trent went out and sat fast time at 10:449 and grabbed the win in the 50 lap main event, which was highlighted by incredible speeds by the field.  The group returns to Flat Rock Saturday night, May 25 with a little extra incentive to go fast!

How fast?  Stephens was clocked in the 10:20’s during the feature race.  And now track officials have posted the $999 “Level Pebble Flat Flyin’ Fast Qualifier Bonus” for a driver that qualifies in the 9 second bracket!  If more then 1 driver dips into the 9’s, they will split the $999 bonus.

In addition to the MSA Super Modifieds, the track’s ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8’s and the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will also be in action.  The evening will be capped off with a Fireworks display.

Stephens, the 24-year old Youngstown State University student thinks he has a shot at that magical mark.  The 2012 MSA champion believes he has the car to do it.  “We made some changes to the car this winter.  And I think I figured out the track during the feature race last year,” said Stephens.  “We ran like 40 laps straight of green flag and they had me in 10:20’s for several laps.”

“With those 2 things together, I think we might be able to get into the 9’s,” added Trent.  “It will take a really good lap, with a good set-up.  I can’t drive it too hard, it has to be a fine line.”

And the bonus?  “It’s awesome!”, Stephens said.  “That $999 bonus really makes it worth while to go after this.”

While Flat Rock is a ¼ mile oval, Stephens is very impressed with the “Level Pebble”.  “It’s small, but it’s a blast to race at Flat Rock.  There are 3 grooves if you have to use them, and normally a small track is only 1 groove and follow the leader.  I ended up running all 3 grooves and some point in the feature, which makes it a lot of fun.  I can’t wait to get back there May 25.”

The May 25 schedule has practice starting at 3:30, the time trial session to see if a 9 second lap is a reality for one or more of the MSA drivers is set for 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.  Flat Rock Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, just 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275. The track phone number is 734-782-2480.  Log onto www.flatrockspeedway.com for further information, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/toledoflatrock or follow us on Twitter @flatrockspeed.
