Toledo Speedway

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 26, 2012) - Wednesday night’s practice session at Flat Rock Speedway saw 19 Late Models burn up the ¼ mile paved oval as final preparations take place for Saturday’s Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 for the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model class. 

The race is also leg number 5 of 6 of the ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series, which consists of a race at the Spartan, MI Speedway near Lansing, 2 races at Flat Rock and 3 races at Toledo, OH Speedway.  The final leg is at Toledo Friday evening, August 17.

The practice generated additional entries, bringing the total to 37 cars as of Noon on Thursday.  A pair of new drivers took laps at Flat Rock Wednesday and have entered the biggest race of the season at the track.  Newport, MI driver Matt Hall is at the wheel of Bob Ward’s #6.  Matt has extensive experience in template Late Models, but this is the first time at the wheel of an outlaw Late Model at Flat Rock.

Second-generation driver Jason LaDuke made his first appearance at “The Rock”.  Jason has plenty of seat time in several regional Truck tour races.  His father, Don LaDuke, competed in the area in Sportsman and Late Models as well the ARCA Racing Series tour.

Derrick Sheppard, Jimmy Thiel, Michael Simko, Scott Pemberton, Lori Hall and Dan Trosen have also entered the race. 

And just before press time, 2-time Gold Cup champion Mike Root’s entry form was received.  “We still anticipate several more entries, and, we may also lose a couple before Saturday,” noted Scott Schultz, GM of the track.  “This is an outstanding field of drivers, with many of the best getting ready for this event.  The race continues to grow in notoriety and the entry list shows what this race means to Late Model racing in the Midwest.”

The event, recognized as one of the top outlaw Late Model events in the area, is expected to draw over 30 entries and will pay $2533 to win and $533 to start the contest.

Flat Rock’s Parts Galore Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock classes will also be in competition as support divisions.  Each class will run features only on this night.

In addition to the $2533 posted to win, Diamond Racing Products has posted $333 for fast time, in addition to a $100 gift certificate courtesy of Fastime Racing Engines and Parts of Wyandotte.  Add to that $5 in lap money per lap, and a driver could walk away with nearly $3500 in cash and prizes for a victory.

Stan Yee Memorial 150 T-shirts will be available at the Flat Rock Speedway souvenir stand on race night.

The race is being taped by the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) and will be shown as part of the “Sunday Night at the Races” show July 29 at 9 p.m. on the Toledo-area local cable access sports channel.  The race can also been seen online at www.bcsn.tv.  Click on “BCSN Vision” at the top of the page.

Rig parking will begin at 12:15, and then the pits will be cleared.  Pit registration will open at 1 p.m. on July 28, with practice for the Late Models set to begin at 3.  Time trials begin at 5 and racing starts at 7 p.m.  Flat Rock Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, just 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480.
