Wendy’s Kids Night Brings New Fans To Toledo

Wendy’s Kids Night Brings New Fans To Toledo

(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 8, 2012) - A week ago, rain and cool temperatures brought racing action to a halt at Toledo Speedway.  Fast forward 7 days later and Mother Nature greeted fans for the Wendy’s Restaurants-sponsored Kids Night with sunshine and blue skies.  Wendy greeted fans as they entered the track and took part in promotions throughout the evening.

The action began with the ARCA ACME Dismantling 35 lap Sportsman feature event.  Dave Arnold Jr. charged into the lead on the green, but a quick yellow on lap 3 for Kent McCloskey and Kevin Stahl Jr. put the field into a double file restart.  Ron Allen motored by Dave for the lead by lap 6, and another yellow on lap 14 set up a great restart.  This one put fast qualifier Jim Froling (17:267) on the outside of Allen as they brought the field to the green.  The duo put on a great show for 5 laps, running door to door.  Froling nosed out front on lap 16, but Allen charged back to the point on lap 19 and stayed there for the final 16 circuits on his way to the victory.  Froling took second, with Mike Young third, Kyle DeLilse fourth and Howard Kelley Jr. fifth.  Norm Lewallen was sixth, with rookie Jeff Myers Jr. recording his best finish with seventh spot.  Greg Stilwell, Andy Hardling and Arnold Jr. completed the top 10.  Arnold was in third when he pitted just before going back to racing on the lap 14 restart.  Landon Schuster, Young and Stilwell were the heat winners.

6-9_tol_ss_34.jpgToledo resident Cory McCaughey made a slick 3 wide move with 8 laps to go and held on for the win in the special 30 lap ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock feature.  Mark Lavoie led the first lap, with Matt Bunting slipping by for the top spot on lap 2.  Matt ran strong out front, but had company from Dennis Whisman.  A lap 14 red came out when Mark Lavoie’s machine had engine woes.  Bunting started on the low lane, Whisman outside and McCaughey in third spot.  A great battle was waged between the trio, and on lap 22 McCaughey nosed low, splitting a lapped car as Bunting went to the high lane.  Cory came out with the lead and was able to stay out front for the victory over Bunting, Whisman, Randy Padgett Jr., Kyle Huston, Kyle Worley, John Rabideau, Matt Ringger, Kris King and James Good.  Whisman and Ringger were the heat race winners.  McCaughey set fast time at 11:881.

6-9_tol_f8_31.jpgA first-time Toledo winner emerged in the ARCA Parts Galore 20 lap Figure 8 main as “The General” Jerry Lee held back Dennis Whisman for his initial win at the Glass City track.  Whisman dogged Lee the entire way and had to settle for second, Gary Cronenwett was third, Greg Studt fourth and Robbie Loving fifth, followed by Jeremy Vanderhoof, Sam Hall, Scott Apperson, Archie Padgett and Ian Jezylo.  Vanderhoof and Whisman notched the heat race wins.
