Paul Pelletier won the Super Late Model feature, duplicating what he did opening night. “I don’t know what to say. I want to thank my sponsors, Fraza Forklifts, Dusty's Collision, Exotic Automation, First Impressions Cement, ABC Plumbing, Berringer Law, Duane's Roadrunner's and all the fans and family, and my hard working crew. It’s good clean racing with these guys. We have another eight or nine of these races left here this year and hopefully more wins,” said Pelletier.
Landon Schuster had a much better weekend this week when he completed only three-quarters of a lap between the Sportsman (Toledo) and Street Stock A division (Flat Rock) features. This week he won the Street Stock A division feature at Flat Rock and finished ninth in the Sportsman feature. “It was a much better weekend this time around then last weekend. We made a bunch of changes to the sportsman that helped, still have a lot of work to do with it but it is coming along. I knew we would be good in the street stock race though. I have been looking forward to this season all winter since Bill Meade talked with me about driving for him. We didn’t even make it a turn last weekend cause of the wreck, so this was our first feature on the track, and it was awesome to take home the win for him and I. It means a lot to me that he wanted me to drive for him after seeing the guys that have drove for him in the past, so I don’t want to disappoint. I have a lot of sponsors who make racing happen for me that I would like to thank, Georgia Cable and Boring have helped me so much and I couldn’t do this without them, also my Uncle and A&D Auto Parts for helping me so much, Arnold Motorsports Communication Distributors, D&S Boring, A-1 Auto Parts, Meg Fabrication LLC, Huston Trucking, Gonyea Auto Supply, Dixie Party Store, Rocky’s Body Shop, Teamsters Local 20, Speedway Tire & Auto and Dynamic Designs Graphics! Also to my Dad for helping out so much with both cars, and my Mom and Girlfriend for all the support at the track and while we are working on the car!”
Robbie Loving won the 50th Anniversary Figure 8 feature. He also won the Figure 8 feature at Toledo Friday night and the opening night feature at Flat Rock. “It feels good. I’m a bit winded. It’s nice to win the 50th anniversary race, it’s a special win. Great race, at the end I was ready to jump out of my seat, I was so excited,” said the driver of the The Motivational Cowboy, RJS, Leppen Chiropractor, Flo-Air, Blossom Florist.
Dennis Whisman finished second in the 50-lap Figure 8 feature. “Second’s not a bad finish. Our clutch was going at the end. Thanks to all my sponsors, family and crew.”
Greg Studt, third place in the Figure 8’s ... “Third still is good. We gave it our all... A win would’ve been nice.”
Kyle Huston won his second Street Stock feature at Toledo. “I would like to thank all my sponsers again Fall Automotive, Ramons Collision, Maran Racing, Huston Trucking and A&D Auto Parts, Thanks again to the guys in the pits for all your hard work, I'd like to thank the fans who greeted me on my first trip to autograph alley. Looking forward to the next night of racing.”
At Toledo he is driving the #76 Fall Automotive, Ramons Collision, Maran Racing, A&D Automotive, and Huston Trucking ... at Flat Rock he will be driving #26 (his dad’s old car).
Where are all the Street Stocks? That’s what a lot of people were asking. Only 23 street stocks were at the track Saturday, so everyone ran in a single feature. The second and a half differential between the fastest and slowest car posed no problem for the field. There was close racing for the entire 25-laps ... there’s something to be said for quality over quanity.
Rick Bennett won his first B-main feature. It was his first Street Stock race, moving up from Enduro racing. His sponsors are PASI and E & F Auto.
Why were people walking around with trophies during the autograph session? Greg and Bob (his dad) Studt brought some of their old trophies to scare with the fans. “We cleaned up a bit and thought it would be fun to pass them out. I kept some of the more important ones, such as the one from Giles Memorial Night last year, and my first win,” said Greg. “Dad took his plaques off and put them on a big board.” There are a lot of kids that will treasure those trophies.
Rich Frantz broke the starter on his car and didn’t get a qualifying lap in ... Thanks to Clyde McKee for giving him a starter to race tonight.
Brad Turner won his first career Late Model race, winning his heat.
The Global Marble & Granite, Bradley Custom Stone #69 Figure 8 driven by Nick Bradley is a former Kenny Ahlgren car.
Ian Jezlo is driving Randy Robert’s car from last year for Apperson Racing.
From the Emailbag:
From Eric Lee driver of the Action Drywall Service, Arrow Uniform Rental, D&E Landscaping, Lee Motorsports Auto Sales, Whitney's Collision, Powertran Transformers, Applied Roofing, Z Corporation #5. "We had a decent run going and just got boxed out and pushed up the track by a lap car which cost us the lead. I had another shot at retaking the lead on the last restart but my car was too tight to run the outside tonight. We were a little off on the setup but we learned a few things and know what to focus on."
From Tina Strickland, owner and spotter for hubby Dennis. “Dennis and I think the new rules are great! With five to go we got to line up with first, second and third position. Made it really exciting for me and the fans. I honestly say I had a great time at the last two races because of the double file re-starts. I used to go home feeling ripped off after watching Dennis try to pass four or five lapped cars just to get to the leader after a caution. We would like to thank our Sponsors: Canton Tree Cement, Strategy One Computers, Trenton Forging, Victory Christian Fellowship Church and Giles Auto Body.”
Jim Alvis made his first race of the year. “We went out for the first time this week, after wrecking his car last year and having to have a new chassis done, The car we’re is running a 2012 Dillon chassis. He started his heat race eighth and finished third ... started feature 12th and finished 10th. What a great job for the first time out in the new car! Our sponsors our Johnson Metal Craft,M&M Fab, Big C's ,and Extreme Signs.”
Jeff Myers Jr. ran his first Sportsman race on May 11. The former World Karting Association - Manufacturer Cup driver is probably the youngest driver this year running on the half mile at age 15. To run at that age, Jeff had to have former racing experience (he finished third and fourth in National Kart points in 2011) and then had to go through a testing and interview process with ARCA officials. He was approved but is probation at the beginning of the season and start at the rear of the field.
In his first night, he qualified mid-field, and got fifth in his heat. There were about 20 cars in the field and despite a spin and a trip through the grass, he brought his Sidelines Sports Eatery and Pub, Advanced Accounting and Bedfordsports.com #14 home 10th. Great job! And thanks to Jeff Sr. who sent me the team’s newsletter.
From Tadek Stadniczuk #20 Street Stock... “The team was setting the air pressures for the feature and they noticed the right rear tire was low, finding a piece of glass in it. We only had unscuffed tires in the trailer, and put on a new left and right rear tire, guessed at the correct air pressures and hoped the tires would end up with the correct amount of stagger.
We started on the outside of the second row. The car was a little unstable for the first lap (because of the new tires) and not as good as it was in practice but still pretty solid. The car that started outside the first row seemed to struggle and dropped back to about seventh place. We worked our way back up to fourth when the caution flag came out. The car picked up a bad push and didn't handle like it did earlier in the race and passed the 24 car on the inside on the last lap to finish second.
Overall the team was happy to finish in 2nd. A special thanks go out to Kathy Crabtree from Health Services Connections for coming out to the track. A really big thank you goes out to all our sponsors; Monroe County Breast Center, Budget Tire, Health Services Connections, Bedford Dental, Speedway Tire & Auto and SpeedwayGolfCarts.com, we couldn't do it without their support.”
From
Grant Hedges #48 Street Stock, who tied his career best finish of fourth. We'll
take a 4th place finish tonight, we're getting closer to a W. Had alot of fun
hanging out with all of the Flat Rock fans tonight! I cant think of a better
way to kickoff the summer then some good oval track racing at the rock, looking
forward to next weekend's race!"
Leftover from last week from Frank Jiovani... he #43 JV Auto, Duvall Group, Gemini Electric Street Stock was consistent the entire race. We had a very good first qualifying attempt that allowed us to start at the front of the pack and miss the early accidents that occurred. The car held up pretty well on the outside but just didn't have enough for the #4 car.
Thanks to everyone that sent me something this week. I appreciate it. Please send me your tidbits to icechips@hotmail.com or send me a message on Facebook.
