Gold Cup Champs Strickland, Root File Entries For Toledo April 29 Event

(TOLEDO, Ohio - April 10, 2012) - Defending ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup champion Dennis Strickland and 2009/2010 champ Mike Root have filed entries for the Sunday afternoon, April 29 race at Toledo Speedway.  The 7-Up Twin 100’s will feature 100 lap feature events for both the outlaw-style bodied ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Late Models and the stock-bodied ARCA/CRA Super Series Late Models. 

Other Gold Cup entries that arrived over the weekend include Wisconsin driver Andrew Morris and Michigan veteran Claude Plante Jr.   Local drivers Joe Hawes, Chad Guinn, Mike Young and Todd Perkins are entered, in addition to Terry Bogusz and Steve Needles, one of the top Late Model pilots in the Midwest.

ARCA/CRA ENTRY LIST BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE FOR TOLEDO RACE

Early entries for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Late Model portion of the 7-Up Twin 100’s at Toledo April 29 include several top names in Late Model racing.  Angola, IN driver Scott Hantz leads the list as of April 9.  Two other drivers very familiar with Toledo, Brent Jack and Johnny VanDoorn, are also entered for the ARCA/CRA 100 lap contest. 

Hantz, Jack and VanDoorn all competed at Toledo in the ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series last season.  It has not yet been confirmed that the trio will attempt to pull double duty April 29 and compete in both 100 lap feature races at the ½ mile paved oval.

Other ARCA/CRA entries included 2 of the top female Late Model drivers in the nation—Mooresville, NC resident Kenzie Ruston and Mequon, WI driver Becca Kasten.  Jason Dietsch, Nick Lay, Peter Cozzolino, Rick Turner, Rick Brown, Terry Fisher Jr. and Jay Niewiek have also filed entries.

The ARCA/CRA Series returns to Toledo after a 1 year hiatus.  The Super Series will stage their first race of 2012 at the Anderson, IN Speedway April 14.  The Toledo race is next up on the CRA slate.

Work continues on Toledo’s new grandstand seating system, with the anticipation that at least 1 of the 2 sections will be ready for the 7-Up Twin 100’s April 29.

An open practice session is slated for Saturday, April 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday’s schedule has practice beginning at 11 a.m., time trials at 12:45 and racing at 2 p.m.  The pits will open both days at 9 a.m. 

Saturday’s practice session can be viewed from the grandstands by fans at no charge.  The ticket office and grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

The ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup 2012 champion will receive a test ride at the ARCA test in December at Daytona International Speedway, courtesy of Fast Track Driving High Performance Driving School president Andy Hillenburg.  The top 3 in the final points will receive a pair of round-trip tickets, courtesy of Allegiant Travel.

A total of 3 provisional starting positions, based on the final Gold Cup points of the Series have guaranteed starting spots in the season-ending Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 at Toledo, which is set for Saturday, September 29 this year.
