Early Entries Arrive For April 29 Toledo Allegiant Late Model Gold Cup

(TOLEDO, Ohio - April 3, 2012) - Several entries have already been received for the first of 6 ARCA Allegiant Late Model Gold Cup races, with the first race set for Sunday afternoon, April 29 at Toledo Speedway.  The 7-Up Twin 100’s will feature 100 lap feature events for both the outlaw-style bodied Gold Cup Late Models and the stock-bodied ARCA/CRA Late Models.

Race fans will be greeted by a spacious new grandstand area, complete with handicap seating capability and much more.  The first section of the new seats should be completed by the season opener, with additional sections to be completed by mid-May.

Local drivers Joe Hawes (Brownstown, MI) and Chad Guinn (Monroe, MI) have filed their entries for the Allegiant Gold Cup Late Models, along with Steve Needles.  Needles, who makes his home on the west side of the state of Michigan in the town of St. Joseph, will be making his first appearance at Toledo in several years.

Toledo drivers Mike Young and Todd Perkins are also entered for the April 29 contest, along with Shelby Twp, MI driver Terry Bogusz, who made his first laps around Toledo last season.

The entry list for both classes of cars is expected to grow as the April 29 date nears.  An open practice session is slated for Saturday, April 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday’s schedule has practice beginning at 11 a.m., time trials at 12:45 and racing at 2 p.m.  The pits will open both days at 9 a.m.

Saturday’s practice session can be viewed from the grandstands by fans at no charge.  The ticket office and grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

“The 7-Up Twin 100’s is a great way for Toledo Speedway to open its 2012 racing season,” stated Ron Drager, promoter of the track.  “Race fans will get the chance to see both types of Late Models with the top drivers in the Midwest.  We are anticipating a great day of racing for the fans and race teams.”

The Series will expand to six (6) races in 2012 with the addition of a date at the Spartan (Lansing), MI Speedway.  2 events are scheduled at Flat Rock, MI Speedway and 3 races at Toledo, OH Speedway.  A total of 3 provisional starting positions, based on the final points of the Series have guaranteed starting spots in the season-ending Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 at Toledo, which is set for Saturday, September 29 this year.

Fastime Racing Engines and Parts of Wyandotte, MI have posted a $100 bonus for the fast qualifier for each of the six contests.  For the Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 on July 28, Diamond Racing Products will award an additional $333 to the fastest car in time trials, in honor of Stan Yee’s famed #33 cars.  For the 2012 season, each Gold Cup race will pay a minimum of $500 to start the feature events.
