RACER’S REUNION DATES, FLAT ROCK’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIGURE 8 RACING SET

TOLEDO, OH—January 18, 2012:  The annual Racer’s Reunions at Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways now have dates for the 2012 season.  Both events will take place on the same weekend; Friday, May 11 at Toledo and Saturday, May 12 at Flat Rock.

The May 12 Flat Rock date will also serve as the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Figure 8 racing at “The Rock”.  Plans are now in the works to invite back all former Figure 8 racers, along with all former Flat Rock racers for the Reunion.  More details about the Figure 8 Anniversary event, which will include a 50 lap feature for the “Motor City Madmen” of the current ARCA Figure 8 class, will be released in the coming weeks.

“We enjoy hosting these Racer’s Reunions, which gives us the opportunity to say thank you to our former racers at both tracks,” noted Ron Drager, promoter of both speedways.  “With the addition of the 50 year Anniversary celebration of Figure 8 racing at Flat Rock, we are looking forward to a large turnout of former racers for this event.”

The ARCA 4 Cylinder class will not compete on May 12 as originally scheduled.  The division will pick up a date by being added to the Saturday, August 11 race.

Flat Rock’s 2012 season begins Saturday, April 28 with a new event, featuring the ARCA Street Stocks, Figure 8’s, 4 Cylinders and a 250 lap Enduro contest, beginning at 7 p.m.

Sunday, April 29, Toledo Speedway opens its gates with the Twin 100’s, featuring the ARCA Gold Cup Late Model Series and their outlaw-style bodies and the ARCA/CRA Super Series stock-bodied Late Models.  Both groups will run 100 lap feature events on the big ½ mile paved oval.  The contest is an afternoon event, with racing at 2 p.m.  Weekly Friday night racing begins May 4.

Toledo’s newest capital improvement project, the construction of a closed-deck grandstand system, is underway, replacing the wooden plank/scaffold type bleacher system at the Glass City oval.
