METDPENNINGEN CLOSES FLAT ROCK SEASON WITH WIN AND ENDURO TITLE

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - October 8, 2011) - Jeff Metdpenningen staged another classic battle with Jeff Maran for much of the event and zipped to victory in the 300 lap Enduro Championship race Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway. Jeff’s win was worth $1100 and also secured his first Enduro Series title at “The Rock”.
Maran, the 2-time defending champ of the Series, took control early on and, as he and Metdpennignen have done pretty much each of the prior 3 races, stayed with a couple car lengths of each other for much of the contest, which was run without a red flag in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 38 seconds.
Metdpenningen took his first shot at the lead on lap 46 and paced the 27 car field with Maran, the early leader, right in his tire tracks. At the lap 100 mark, the top four were Metdpennigen, Maran, Rick McColl and Matt Ringger. With the additional 50 laps, the question of who would pit for fuel came into play as race wound down. Maran grabbed the point on lap 134, gave up the lead to Jeff M. on lap 138, then regained the top spot on lap 142. At the lap 150 mark, 3 cars were still on the lead lap-Maran, Metdpenningen and McColl. Around lap 180, Ringger was the first to pit for fuel. At lap 204, Metdpenningen went to the pits for a splash of gas, followed 1 lap later by Maran. McColl was now the leader and stayed there until lap 226 when he, too, decided to grab some fuel. Maran came back out and took over the number 1 spot, only to have Metdpenningen zip by on lap 235. Maran began to slow with mechanical problems and finally pitted on lap 262, and returned to the event in the latter stages.
Metdpenningen kept his steady pace and scored the victory, 2 laps ahead of McColl at the checkered flag. Derrick Sheppard was third, Dave Stadniczuk fourth and Mike Findlay fifth, followed by Rick Bennett, Ed Case, Craig Lange, Troy Brehmer and Matt Ringger.
The mechanics race was won by Justin Banas, driving Rob
Moore’s #83 Street Stock car to the win over Sarah Luttermoser in her dad
Jeff’s #30, James Murphy (in son Tim’s #05 Figure) and Davin Creekmore in Troy
Brehmer’s #42.
