FAIR JR. LEADS GREAT FIELD IN PRACTICE FOR GREAT LAKES HELICOPTERS GLASS CITY 200

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 30, 2011) - Defending race winner Harold Fair Jr. led a great field of cars with a lap of 15:089 in practice Friday night for the 23rd running of Saturday’s Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway, set to take place Saturday.

Fair Jr. was quickest in both sessions held on a very cold and windy afternoon.  The 2 hours of practice was completed, with several Sportsman and Street Stocks also taking practice laps.  JR Roahrig (15:178), Johnny VanDoorn (15:194), Mike Luberda (15:196) and Tim Felver (15:269) filled out the top 5 cars, while Don St. Denis (15:282), Johnny Belott (15:288), Brent Jack (15:292), Nick Grodi (14:312) and Dennis Strickland (15:313) rounded out the top 10.

Strickland spun late in the second practice and tagged the infield blocks, causing some damage to the right rear of his car in the only incident of the day.  First-time visitor Augie Grill posted a lap of 15:361,  good for 12th quick on the day.

30 cars took laps Friday.  Todd Perkins, Howard Kelley Jr. and Tom O’Leary IV were all on the grounds but did not practice.  Chris Burkhart encountered mechanical trouble and has withdrawn from the event.  Mike Young has also scratched from the event after trouble at a test session yesterday.  A total of 4 more cars are expected to arrive for race day.

Saturday’s schedule has practice at noon, time trials at 3 and racing at 5 p.m.  The Sportsman, Figure 8’s and Street Stocks will run feature races prior to the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200. Sunday, October 2 will serve as the rain date for the event.
