LEGENDS CARS, TRAINS, ROAD COURSE RACE AND MORE PROVIDE FUN AT TOLEDO

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 24, 2011) - Toledo Speedway played host to a day of fun and entertainment Saturday afternoon.  A variety of events took place as the track now prepares for 2 of its biggest events of the season in the month of October.

The Michigan Legends Car Series took to the short track for a 30 lap contest, with Sean McPherson scoring the victory.  Tony Monge came from the back of the pack and got up to second as the checkered flag fell.  Matt Todd, Cody Falkner, Tyler Turner, Chance Rice, Trenton Besgrove, Guy Fire, Dave DeHem and Jack Lehman rounded out the top ten finishers.  Monge and McPherson took the heat race wins.

9-24_tol_road_course.jpg18 cars took the green flag for the 30 lap Road Course race, which uses turns 3 and 4 of the ½ mile, a portion of the short track (the chicane location) and pit road.  Archie Padgett jumped into the lead at the green flag and sailed away out front as the rest of the pack battled to move up on the leader.  By lap 10, Archie’s lead was erased and Jeremy Vanderhoof shot by for the number 1 spot.  Several laps later Tom O’Leary IV was on the move and took control, zipping into the lead and the eventual win, his 2nd for this event.  Vanderhoof took second, Scot Bunge was third, Dennis Whisman fourth and Scott Apperson fifth, followed by Cory McCaughey, Padgett, Randy Padgett, Troy Brehmer and Anthony Terris.

9-24_tol_hw_train.jpgThe first-ever Husband/Wife, Boyfriend/Girfriend Figure 8 Train race was held, giving the ladies the wheel of the first car (the car with the engine) in the 2 cars chained together.  The men were in the back car, which had only brakes.  The event was quite entertaining and on the final lap, Tom O’Leary IV/Chelsea Goro stole the win from Tom’s parents, Tom O’Leary III and Dena O’Leary, who spun just before the finish line, allowing their son and his girlfriend to grab the victory.  Mom and Dad finished second, early leaders Barb Kelley/Howard Kelley were third, Tom O’Leary Jr. and his daughter, Tammy, were fourth, Lonnie York and Tiffany Lyons fifth and Paul and Katie Duffin sixth.

Toledo Speedway now prepares for the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200 Late Model invitational Saturday, October 1 and the National Championship weekend October 15-16.  The USAC Silver Crown Series will run the Rollie Beale 150 on Saturday the 15th, while the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship 200, presented by Federated Car Care, takes the green flag Sunday, October 16.
