RAIN HALTS TOLEDO’S 9-11 EVENT; STRICKLAND, HUSTON COLLECT TITLES

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 12, 2011) - A pair of rain delays prior to the start of the Sunday afternoon race card at Toledo Speedway cancelled activities for the day.  The ARCA Truck Series and ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stocks had completed their qualifying before two delays for rain stopped the action.

Many activities were planned to pay tribute in honor of the 9-11 tragedy and those who protect and serve us here and abroad, but they, too, were washed out.

Toledo Speedway will offer FREE admission to all active and retired military, police and fire personnel for the Saturday, September 24 event with service identification.  Race time is 5 p.m.

Refunds were given to fans at the track.  Any remaining rain checks may be refunded by calling the track or may be used at any of the remaining events on the 2011 schedule at the track.  All rain checks should be exchanged at the ticket windows upon arrival to the speedway, and any difference in price will be paid.

The ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series had 27 cars in the pit area for their EarSmart of Northwest Ohio 100 lap Championship contest presented by the Toledo Blade and Cumulus Radio.  Qualifying was stopped once and the cars sent back to the pits, but returned after the track quickly dried.  Several cars did qualify on the second attempt of time trials.  A shower on the backstretch hit as Keith Nelson was on the track, which resulted in a hard crash into the backstretch wall.  The heavy rains then hit the speedway and track officials met with the drivers and the racing program was called off.

Dennis Strickland is the 2011 Allegiant Gold Cup champion.  The Carleton, MI resident will have the opportunity to test an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race car at the ARCA test at Daytona International Speedway in December.  The top 3 in the final points, Strickland, Mike Root and Harold Fair Jr., will receive two round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Travel.

Eric Huston is the 2011 Toledo Speedway ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock champion.  Eric had a 10 point margin on Dennis Whisman entering Sunday’s race.  The title is Eric’s third at the track, with the others coming in 2007 and 2009.

The Glass City oval takes a week off before getting back into action with an event on Saturday, September 24.  The fun day of family entertainment has the popular Road Course race on the card, along with the Michigan Legends Cars, wives and mechanics races and the first-ever husband and wife Figure 8 Train race, with the ladies at the wheel of the front car that has the engine, and the men will be in the back car with just a brake pedal!  The cars are chained together for this event.

The track will also host a Public Flea Market and Racer’s Flea market in the track parking lot on the September 24 date, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Remaining events for 2011 include the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200 Super Late Model invitational Saturday, October 1 at 5 p.m. and National Championship Weekend October 15-16, featuring the Rollie Beale 150 for the USAC Silver Crown Cars Saturday and the ARCA National Championship 200 presented by Federated Car Care Sunday.

The track phone number is 419-727-1100.  For additional details, log onto www.toledospeedway.com.
