$500 TRACK RECORD BONUS POSTED FOR MSA SUPER MODS! TIM ICE READY FOR “THE ROCK” CHALLENGE

$500 TRACK RECORD BONUS POSTED FOR MSA SUPER MODS! TIM ICE READY FOR “THE ROCK” CHALLENGE

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - August 15, 2011) - When the MSA Super Modifieds visit Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night, August 20 for the first time in 30 years, a hefty “Flat-Out Flyin” $500 bonus awaits the driver that breaks and sets a new, all-time track record at the ¼ mile paved oval.  The mark the MSA drivers will be shooting for is 10:239, set by Randy Sweet in a winged creation back on July 4, 1985.

The MSA driver with perhaps the most experience at Flat Rock is Tim Ice of Doylestown, OH.  Ice has competed several times at Flat Rock in a Late Model back in the 1990’s in a series that carried his nickname, “Iceman”.  Tim finished 3rd at the Lorain County, OH Speedway MSA event last weekend, which was won by Jack Smith, with veteran Jon Henes second.

ragan-david-for-web.jpgRace fans will also have the opportunity to meet NASCAR driver David Ragan, the winner of the July NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway and the pole sitter of the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  David will be giving out six (6) tickets to a fan at Flat Rock for Sunday’s Michigan International Speedway NASCAR Sprint Cup race through his twitter and facebook accounts.

Ice sees the Flat Rock event “as a great opportunity for MSA.  I’ve had the chance to race at Flat Rock 5 or 6 times, and I remember it as a very racy track with 2 grooves,” noted Tim.  “Things happen very fast there, but it’s a very competitive track.  The thing that I remember the most about Flat Rock in those 100 lap Late Model races is my spotter telling me 10 laps to go.  It’s so fast and the lap times are incredible for a track of this size, but at the same time, you can definitely race side by side.  It should be a great show for the fans and for our MSA teams, too.”

Ice thinks there’s a pretty good chance the track record will fall and someone will collect the $500 “Flat-Out Flyin” bonus.  “We’ve got some drivers that can do that,” noted Ice.  “My teammate, Charlie Schultz, is one of those guys.  I’m sure everyone will be wicked up for qualifying.  This is going to be a fun night.”

In addition to Ice, Henes and Smith, current MSA point leader Trent Stephens, Lou Cicconi, Charlie Schultz, veteran Bobby Dawson, Canadian hot shoe Mike Lichty and the MSA regulars are expected to be at Flat Rock.

Flat Rock’s Parts Galore Figure 8’s and the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will also be in action for the August 20 race card.

All tickets will go on sale race day, Saturday, August 20 at the track.  The pits will open at 2 p.m., practice begins at 3:30, the quest for the “Flat-Out Flyin” $500 track record bonus time trials are set for 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The ticket office and front gates will also open at 3:30.

Flat Rock, MI Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480.  For further information, log onto www.flatrockspeedway.com.
