TOLEDO POLICE, FIRE GROUPS TO CONDUCT PRE-RACE TICKET SALE FUNDRAISER FOR SEPTEMBER 11 EVENT

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 15, 2011) - The Toledo Police Patrolmen’s Association and the Toledo Fire Department will conduct a pre-race ticket sale for the Sunday, September 11 Stars and Stripes 100 stock car race at Toledo Speedway.  The pre-sale will serve as a fundraiser, with 50% of the pre-race sale proceeds to be donated to the 2 groups. 

The announcement was made today at a press conference held at the Toledo Police Museum, with officials from the Toledo Police, Toledo Firefighters and Toledo Speedway on hand.  The pre-sale tickets may be purchased from any City police or fire station location.  Tickets are $20 each.

Tickets may be obtained at the following locations; The Toledo Police Museum, 2201 Kenwood Blvd. at Ottawa Park; the Toledo Firefighters Museum, 918 W. Sylvania Avenue; Toledo Firefighters Credit Union, 2275 W. Laskey; the Police Credit Union and Safety Building, 525 N. Erie Street; in downtown Toledo and at the 4280 N. Heatherdowns at Eastgate location.

toledo_fd_logo_color_jpg.jpgThe speedway, located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit, will also extend an invitation to all current and retired City of Toledo police and firefighters, as well as all military personnel to be their guests for the September 11 race, which falls on the 10th anniversary of 9-11.

 “This is just a small way in which Toledo Speedway can show its sincere appreciation to those men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day, whether it’s here in Toledo, or elsewhere in the United States or overseas,” said Ron Drager, owner and promoter of the speedway.  “The Residents of our city     can support these groups by purchasing a ticket to the September 11 race at Toledo Speedway.  We are extremely proud of all those who serve this city and country, and we want to extend our thanks to them, especially on the September 11 date.”

A pre-race ceremony is being planned for the event, featuring vintage police and fire vehicles, as well as a color guard.  On the track, the ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Late Model series will compete in the Stars and Stripes 100 on the fast ½ mile paved oval.  The event will serve as the 2011 Season Championship contest for the group.  The track’s R & M Recycling Street Stocks will also be in action with its Season Championship event, with a 50 lap ARCA Truck Series feature also on the September 11 race card.

The spectator gates will open and practice begins for the race cars at 11 a.m., time trials are set for 12:30, the pre-race ceremony will take place at 1:45 p.m. and racing gets the green flag at 2 p.m.
