Allegiant ARCA Late Model Gold Cup Leg #4 August 12 At Toledo

Allegiant ARCA Late Model Gold Cup Leg #4 August 12 At Toledo

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 1, 2011) - On the basis of the last 2 events for the ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series this season, it’s going to be pretty hard to duplicate the kind of action and finishes for the Friday night, August 12 Grogan’s Towne 100 lap showdown at Toledo Speedway.

But, based on the quality of the drivers and race teams that are taking part in the Series in 2011, leg number 4 of the Series should continue to bring great racing and excitement for Late Model race fans.  Leg number 2, held at Toledo July 8, saw no yellow flags and an extremely interesting and competitive race for the all green flag 100 lap contest.  JR Roahrig piloted Bobby Blount’s #16 to the win over Dennis Strickland, taking the lead with just 6 laps to go.

And last Saturday’s event, the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway saw 4 cars finish under a blanket, with the last 62 laps run under green flag.  Eric Lee topped Mike Root, Dan Ford Jr. and Strickland in a thrilling event.

With the final 2 legs of the Gold Cup Series at Toledo and the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200 approaching, several more cars are expected to enter the August 12 Grogan’s Towne 100.  Strickland continues to hold the point lead after 3 of the 5 events, with the championship now taking on added flavor with the recent announcement that the Gold Cup champion will receive an invitation to test in an ARCA Racing Series by Menards car at the annual December test at Daytona International Speedway.  The car will be fielded by Andy Hillenberg’s ARCA team and his Fast Track Driving School.

Defending Allegiant Gold Cup champ Mike Root will be looking for his first-ever Toledo win, while Harold Fair Jr. will be looking for redemption after leading the July 8 contest, only to have a minor mechanical gremlin end his night.  Fair was the winner of the Dixie Classic at the Dixie, MI Motor Speedway in July.  Angola, IN driver Scott Hantz has also entered, along with fellow Indiana native Brent Jack, who won the Jim Blount Memorial at Plymouth, IN Speedway earlier this season.  Cedar Springs, MI driver Dakota Carlson will be on hand, also looking for his initial Toledo win after a strong showing in the July event.  Local drivers Derek Wiley, Nick Grodi, Todd Perkins, Joe Hawes, Ron Allen, Steve Cronenwett Jr., Tom O’Leary IV and Jack Varney Jr. will also be on hand.  Varney has been very fast at several tracks this year and has a win at Owosso, MI to his credit and finished 5th at Flat Rock last weekend.  Varney missed the first Toledo race but will be at the fast ½ mile paved oval for the Grogan’s Towne 100 August 12.

The Allegiant Gold Cup championship race, another 100 lap event, is set for Sunday afternoon, September 11.  The ARCA Truck Series will also be in action with a 50 lap main, while the track’s R & M Recycling Street Stocks will battle in their final point race to determine the 2011 track champion the same day.  Race time is at 2 p.m.

The top 3 drivers in the final points will receive a pair of round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant.  A total of three (3) provisional starting positions are also reserved from the final points for the 23rd running of the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200, set for Saturday, October 1.

The pit gates will open at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 12, practice begins at 4:30, time trials are at 6:15 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
