Moran Chevrolet To Provide Camaro Pace Car For Stan Yee Memorial

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - July 20, 2011) - The 2011 Indianapolis 500 Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car replica will lead the field to the green flag for the Saturday, July 30 running of the 4th Annual Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by CGS Imaging at Flat Rock Speedway.  The Camaro will be provided by Moran Chevrolet of Clinton Twp, MI, the title sponsor of the event.  The 150 lap contest for the ARCA Allegiant Glass City Gold Cup Late Models is leg number 3 of the 5 race series between Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways.

The color combination is similar to the 1969 Camaro Indy 500 pace car.  Only 500 of these 2011 edition Camaros have been produced and features a 6.2 liter V-8 engine.  The car was revealed January 20 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ.

The event will pay $2533 to win and $533 to start, with drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Canada expected. The track’s Parts Galore Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock classes will also be in competition, with feature events only for the July 30 race date.

pace_car_3.jpgA field of 25-30 cars is expected for the prestigious event, named in honor of  Stan Yee Sr., who passed away in May of 2008.  Stan was a fixture in Midwest Late Model racing from the 1960s forward. Both on dirt and the asphalt, Stan’s famed No. 33 cars won countless races. Drivers such as Marv Parenteau, Joe Ruttman, Artie Sommers, Joy Fair, the late John Anderson, Rick Sheppard, Danny Byrd, Harold Cook, Chuck Roumell, Steve Lee, and Stan’s son, Stan Jr., piloted Yee’s Collision machines.  Stan Jr. won the 2003 Flat Rock Late Model crown guided by his father.  Parenteau, Byrd, Roumell and Lee will all be in attendance at the event to greet the drivers and race fans.

A total of 17 drivers have already entered the race as of July 20.  The 2011 event marks the fourth year for the Memorial race at Flat Rock. Justin Schroeder scored his first-ever Flat Rock and Late Model win in 2008, first-time Flat Rock visitor Mike Luberda Jr. captured the title in 2009, and Mike Root was victorious in the 2010 version of the race, also his first win at “The Rock”.

Several bonus awards, with a requirement to have a paid pre-entry to collect the awards, should bump up the number of entries heading into next week’s race.  Moran Chevrolet will award a set of four (4) Hoosier Racing Tires to a driver in a random draw that will include race fans, former ARCA official Jack Wyman has posted a total of $500 to be split among the four drivers that travel from the greatest distance to compete in the 150, while Fastime Racing Engines and Parts will award $100 for the fast time. Lap money at $5 per lap will also be up for grabs.

pace_car_2.jpgThe leader of each lap of the 150 lap contest will also receive an additional $5 per lap, with sponsorship coming from businesses and race fans.  To sponsor a lap, call the track office at 734-782-2480.  The sponsors are:  Flagstar Bank of Dearborn Heights (7 laps), Confetti’s Liquor Box Lounge of Dearborn Heights (7 laps), race fan Robert Wheaton (5 laps), DVD Dave (2 laps), Alex and Edgar Brown (6 laps), Paul and Iris Anton (2 laps), Glass Unlimited of Westland (10 laps), The Super Health Store (20 laps), Southgate Transmission (5 laps), Capitol Towing of Lincoln Park (8 laps), LeClair Fuels (4 laps), Performance Images Photography (10 laps), 2 laps each from Applied Roofing, Arrow Uniform Rental, Auto/Con Corporation, D & E Landscaping, Dusty’s Collision, Labelle Electrical Contractors, Nortown Auto Glass, Posen Construction, Powertrain Transformers, Lee Motorsports, Inc. and 1 lap each in memory of Ed Knakiewicz, Thomas McGown and Don Lorenz.
