School Buses Highlight Toledo’s Burge Wrecking Night Of Destruction

(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 27, 2011) - AJ Padgett took the victory in the School Bus Figure 8 race as part of the Burge Wrecking “Night of Destruction” Friday evening at Toledo Speedway. An excellent crowd ventured to the track to begin their Memorial Day holiday weekend and was treated to a very entertaining and fun evening.
The wild Bus Figure 8 show was filled with bone-crunching hits as the crowd roared their approval. The track’s chief technical inspector, Jack Franzil, got over on his side, courtesy of Troy Herrmann. Side to side hits, nose to tail slams and much more saw the front ends of 7 of the 8 buses wiped out! Sam Hall, Dennis Whisman, Joe Koester, Herrmann, Franzil, Robbie Loving and Dave Arnold Jr. were also in the field.
Bus sponsors included Burge Wrecking, Valvoline Instant Oil Change Centers of Toledo, Speedway Bar and Grille, PB Fabrication, R & M Recycling, Jeff’s Collision, Mayfly Tavern, Froggy’s Saloon and Steve Grabke’s Body Shop.
A total of 6 Figure 8 Trains were on hand and put on a great
show in their 12 lap feature race.
Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O’Leary III edged the duo of Tom O’Leary IV/Jim
Brazeau. On the very first lap, Jeremy
Fragassi got turned over by hitting one of the tractor tires, ending his night
along with his teammate Scott Apperson as the crowd cheered when he re-started
his machine. Jeremy and Scott, however,
were done for the night. Tom O’Leary
Jr./Charlie Williams, Adam Plonski/James McClure and Trina Apperson/Carrie
Apperson followed the top 2 train teams at the finish.
The R & M Recycling Street Stocks ran a 25 lap feature
that counted toward the season point standings.
Cory McCaughey held back the charge of Dennis Whisman to win the
event. Whisman looked to the high side
in the final 6 laps, but could not get by Cory, who scored his 2nd
win in 3 tries. Mike Hammer was third,
Matt Ringger fourth and Craig Osenbaugh fifth, followed by Luke Davis, Dennis
Helsel, Mike Hacker, John Rabideau and Scott Apperson.
Dennis Whisman led every lap as he outran Cory McCaughey to win the 12 lap Street Stock Figure 8 main. Cory stayed right with Whisman the entire distance but settled for second. Alan Bland Jr., Matt Ringger, Luke Davis, Craig Osenbaugh, AJ Padgett, Scott Apperson, Mike Hacker and Bill Carberry completed the top ten.
Alan Bland Jr. took the backup race over Cory McCaughey and
Mike Hacker, Craig Osenbaugh won the
Boat Figure 8 event as he took the checkered flag and sent the boat and trailer
flying across the stripe, along with his bumper. Bill Carberry, Bland Jr. and Scott Apperson
followed in the Boat race. Ron Osenbaugh
captured the race car bowling contest over John Rabideau, Mike Hacker and Don
Cox. Rabideau won the plywood race,
planing by Ron Osenbaugh, Matt Ringger and Hacker.
