Kids Rule Toledo
(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 20, 2011) - The skies turned blue, the sun came out and hundreds of kids jammed Toledo Speedway for the Wendy’s/Kickin’ Mule Car Wash Kids Night. All kids to age 14 were admitted free and received a free hot dog, chips and a drink, courtesy of Sherwood Foods, Seyfert Snacks and the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group. The Valvoline Instant Oil Change Centers provided free T-shirts to the kids to color upon their arrival to the speedway.
Jeremy Vanderhoof made it 2 for 2 in the Parts Galore Figure 8 race, Ron Allen topped the ACME Dismantling Sportsman event, Mike Marlow captured the Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder main and Eric Huston zipped to victory in the R & M Recycling Street Stock feature. Wendy from Wendy’s Hamburgers and Jeff Biggs and Cameron Hammer represented Kickin’ Mule Car Wash in the Sunny Delight Winner’s Circle festivities. The contest was race number 2 of the season in the Valvoline Instant Oil Change Summer Racing Series.
Randy Roberts and Dennis Whisman led the field to the green for the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature event. Whisman, the reigning track champ, darted into the lead and looked strong out front, but misfortune struck as the driveshaft popped on his machine, ending his night on lap 9. Jeremy Vanderhoof, who had tucked in on the leader’s bumper, took control and zipped to his second win in as many races at Toledo in 2011. Robbie Loving stayed right with Jeremy to the stripe, took several looks high and low and had to settle for second. Greg Studt made up some ground and was with the lead duo at the finish in third, Anthony Terris was fourth and Roberts fifth, followed by Sam Hall, Chuck Pankow, James Rae, Whisman and Stephanie Bradley. Studt and Terris took the heat race wins.
The ACME Dismantling Sportsman division drew for their feature starting positions, and Ron Allen used his 4th starting spot to grab an early lead on his way to victory in the non-stop 35 lap feature event. With no yellow flags, Allen quickly took the lead from Jeff King on lap 3 and was never challenged. Great pack racing took place through the field, however, as defending champ Jim Froling and Howard Kelley Jr. made their way up through the field. Froling got to second, Kelley Jr. was third, Greg Stiwell fourth and Kyle DeLisle fifth. Tom O’Leary IV, King, Dave Arnold Jr., Mike Young and Kenny McKay Jr. rounded out the top ten. Allen set fast time at 17:148. The heat race winners were Young and King.
Local favorite Mike Marlow took the lead from Jeff Wells on lap 3 and powered his way to the win in the 20 lap Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder feature race. Despite the short field, they battled back and forth as Marlow sailed away to the win. Matt Brazeau was second, Perry Marlow third, David Katafiaz fourth and Brad Turner fifth, with Wells in the sixth spot. Turner took the heat win, while Brazeau set fast time at 12:592.
2-time champ Eric Huston worked his way steadily to the front, took the lead with just 2 laps to go and grabbed the win in the 25 lap ARCA R & M Recycling Street Stock contest. Luke Davis led the first 5 circuits until Mike Hammer took control. With a complete inversion, the quicker cars had to battle to the front. Huston got to the bumper of Hammer with 5 to go and on lap 23, darted low and snared the lead and the win. Hammer held on for second, Cory McCaughey was third, Matt Ringger fourth and Dennis Whisman fifth. Craig Osenbaugh, James Rae, Kyle Huston, Dennis Helsel and Davis were next in line to complete the top ten. Rinnger and Rae were the heat race winners. Fast time went to Huston at 11:748.
