Flat Rock Speedway 7 Up Season Opener April 30
(Flat Rock, Michigan- April 17, 2011): Flat Rock Speedway will open its gates for the 58th consecutive season Saturday, April 30 for the 7 Up Season opener. The ¼ mile paved oval and Figure 8 track will feature its Saturday night race cards through September 17.
The ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models, Parts Galore Figure 8’s and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will hit the track for the first event of the new season. Paul Pelletier (Late Models), Jeremy Vanderhoof (Figure 8) and Jimmy Rae (Street Stock B Main) are expected to defend their 2010 championships. Street Stock A main champ Dan Ford Jr. has sold his car and will move to the Late Model division at “The Rock”.
A pair of pre-season practices will take place for race teams Saturday, April 23 from Noon to 5 p.m., with the pit area opening at 10 a.m.; and Wednesday, April 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the pit area open at 4 p.m. There is no charge for spectators for the practice sessions.
The Saturday, April 30 7 Up season opener will see the pit area opening at 1 p.m., practice and the front gates at 3 p.m., time trials at 5 and racing every Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The track will also host a total of three (3) FIREWORKS shows during the season; May 28, July 9 and September 3. The Budweiser KABOOOM Night July 9 will feature the biggest fireworks show in the track’s history.
The ARCA Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinders will also be in competition at Flat Rock several times during the year. A total of four (4) Enduro races are also on the 2011 schedule, along with races for the ARCA Truck Series, the Michigan Legends Cars, the MCR Dwarf Cars and the Buckeye 305 Winged Sprint Cars.
The famous School Bus Figure 8 races have 2 dates again this year, with Parts Galore (June 17) and Grillers Select BBQ Sauce (September 10) serving as race sponsors for the two bus races. Reserved seat tickets are now on sale for these two events by calling the track at 734-782-2480. Visa and Mastercard are accepted for phone orders.
For the first time in 30 years, the winged Super Modifieds will return to Flat Rock. The anticipation is already beginning to build for the August 20 event, which will bring the Midwest Super Modifieds (MSA) to Flat Rock for the first time for this touring series, and the first visit since 1981 for this class of cars. Lap times in the 9 second bracket are possible.
Adult ticket prices for weekly racing events are $11 each, with increased admission for special events. Children 6-12 are $3 each, and 5 and under are admitted free of charge. Cash, Visa and Mastercard are accepted for ticket sales on race day at the ticket windows.
The track features FREE parking on the speedway grounds and is the home of the $1 hot dog! No coolers, cans or bottles are permitted in the main grandstand or on the spectator hill. Fans are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the hillside seating.
