ARCA Talladega Winner Dillon, runner-up Kimmel gear up for Toledo round May 15; Tickets now on sale
(Toledo, Ohio –April 17, 2011): After a thrilling win at Talladega SuperSpeedway Saturday morning, winner Ty Dillon now sets his sights on the short track portion of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour. The series pays a visit to Toledo Speedway, Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15 for the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care.
Dillon, the grandson of legendary NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car owner Richard Childress, edged by 9-time ARCA champ Frank Kimmel in the final 50 yards to win the 250 mile race, in what will go down as one of the greatest finishes in ARCA history at Talladega. The 18 year old, one of the potential stars of the future, showed great patience and pulled up high coming down to the stripe with a pack of cars barreling down to the checkered flag. Kimmel stayed low and Ty took to the high side to win the exciting contest, which was run Saturday morning after being rained out Friday afternoon.
With the 2011 ARCA championship one of his goals, the North Carolina native will make the trip to Toledo for his first visit to the ½ mile paved Glass City oval. Dillon’s brother, Austin, competes on the NASCAR Truck Series and his father, Mike, is a former driver. With his father and grandfather on the radio Saturday, Ty displayed experience beyond his years to win his 3rd ARCA race in just 5 starts.
Kimmel, Daytona ARCA winner Bobby Gerhart, Tom Hessert, and a field of over 30 drivers are expected to make the trip to Toledo for the May 15 event.
Tickets are now on sale for the Toledo race by calling the track at 419-727-1100. Visa and Mastercard are being accepted for phone orders. Advance purchasers will also receive a free ticket to Saturday’s Pole Day and ARCA Truck race with their Sunday ticket purchase.
