Trackside Tidbits, by Debi Domby

(FLAT ROCK, Mich.) - Super Late Model points leader, Paul Pelletier, won his third consecutive feature and fourth of the season. "That yellow hurt us. The front tire's going flat, but lately it seems to run better on the flats (last win, the rear tire went flat in victory lane). It's been a dream season. It was fun tonight, even with all the traffic," said the 2006 division champion.

The driver of the Detroit Tube Mill, ABC Plumbing, Dusty's Collision, Exotic Automation, Berringer Law #44 goes into the final race with a 70 point lead on 2007 division champion, Dennis Strickland.

The most a driver can get on Saturday between feature, heat and qualifying is 240 points, the least is 85 for 24th in the feature. So anyone within 155 still has a mathematical chance of taking the position.

The remainder of the top 10 positions: Strickland leads third place Ron Allen by 165. Allen leads Royce Cornett by 75 points, Stan Yee Jr. by 80, Eric Lee by 105. Cornett is five points ahead of Yee Jr., 30 head of Lee and 85 head of Hawes; Yee Jr. is 25 ahead of Lee and 80 ahead of Hawes; Lee leads Hawes by 55. Hawes is leading anyone behind him by 185 or more points. Jeff MacZink is in eighth, only 10 points ahead of rookie Nick Grodi; 20 ahead of Steve Peters; 55 ahead of Ricky Kargel; and Dan Trosen is behind 110. Grodi leads Peters by 10; 45 ahead of Kargel; and Trosen 100. Peters leads Kargel by 35; 90 ahead of Trosen.

Gary Cronenwett drove his first career SLM race today. He was behind the wheel of Bob Ward's #6 and finished eighth in the feature. Get well wishes go out to Ward's regular Flat Rock driver, Brad Birr, who was in the hospital with an appendicitis.

Don Burkhart won his SLM fifth heat of the season.

Derek Sheppard was at the track, but the car broke a rear end in hot laps.

Josh Bunting is the rookie to win an A main feature in 14 years. The last rookie that won an A main, was Jim Froling in 1996. The race almost didn't happen for Bunting, who had mechanical problems after qualifying. The team got the car back together and Bunting started on the pole... and proceeded lead all 25 laps. "First, I can say this is my biggest win in my career. I got to thank Howard Kelly Jr. for everything and all the help he has gave me and also to the Koch family for the big help they have gave my for the last couple years. Got to also thank Mike Mills, my boss at Speedway Tire and Auto for all the help he gives to me and got to give the guys that help me out in the pits every week thanks. I got to give thanks to Bob Mikolajczyk too. I enjoy running at the Rock a lot more than Toledo, I enjoy the tought competition every week from the front running guys like Dan Ford Jr and the Moore brothers (Tim and Rob) and Chad Guinn, I hope this is the first of many more to come." Thanks for the email Josh...

If I missed someone winning an A main betwen 1996 and 2010, please send me an email and I'll correct it next week.

Lonnie York won the B division feature and then he turned and turned and turned nice tight donuts for the crowd. "I had to turn the donuts ... been awhile, only got one feature this season. I want to thank Rich Abel, without him I would be able to do this," said the driver of the Tony Tires #25 (I'll get the other sponsors next week, he has a couple more)

Shonda Harbin won her second career heat. The 16-year old driver took her first heat win a couple weeks ago.

Points leader, Jeremy Vanderhoof won the Figure 8 feature. "We had a good night at the track. Driver error in qualifying put us in position to win the heat and feature ... but man does that 33 make it hard. It's a lot easier for me to chase him then try to hold him off," said Vanderhoof.

Landon Schuster won the 2010 Factory Stock championship at Toledo. It's his first career championship. Thanks for the email, Landon, and congrats and the championship. "I would like to thank all of my sponsors first of all because I would not be able to race or be competitive with out them...Georgia Cable and Boring, A-1 Auto Parts, A&D Auto Parts and my Uncle Tom, Communication Distributors, D&S Boring, Rocky's Body Shop, Glass City Heating & Air Conditioning, Speedway Tire, Ron Miller and The Auto Connection. Also thank you to Rick and Richie Schorling. I would also like to thank Arnold Motorsports for all of their help the past few years ... they have helped me out a ton. My Dad has been working on racecars for a long time and we decided to start building one when I was 15...Since then, it has been pretty much the two of us, without him, I would be nowhere, so I was so happy I was able to do this for him. I want to also thank my Mom for being at every single one of my races supporting me like no other, wouldn't feel right to race if she wasn't there. I have dreamed of winning a championship since I was a kid, and I know my Grandpa Sonny is watching down on me right now and smiling. I was very close to my Grandpa and to lose him last year was a very sad period for me...I believe he was with us this year...He loved this racetrack, he did everything he could to make a great show for the fans. The family name has so much history here and I am incredibly happy to keep the history going with this championship. I wish he could be here with us to celebrate, and I dedicate this championship in his memory. I would also like to thank all of the fans and drivers who come out each week, this is what keeps racing alive...and I love it more than anything."

More from the other three champions, Dennis Whisman, Figure 8s; Jim Froling, Sportsman; and Brad Turner, 4-cylinders. If I missed you, send me an email to icechips@hotmail.com or send me a message on Facebook.
