Froling, Whisman, Schuster, Turner the 2010 Toledo Champions

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 27, 2010) - A great crowd Friday evening at Toledo Speedway witnessed the crowning of the 2010 track champs on All Sport Season Championship Night. Jim Froling, Dennis Whisman, Landon Schuster and Brad Turner took the titles in their respective divisions on perhaps the best Friday evening weather of the season.
The ARCA Sportsman class staged a 40 lap feature on the half=mile for their final point race of the year, with Jim Froling taking the win and sealing his second track title in his career at the Glass City oval. Chad Stilwell looked solid out front as he led the first 8 laps until Howard Kelley Jr. snuck by, with Ron Allen in his tracks. On the next lap, Kelley and Allen tangled after battling for the lead, bringing out the yellow and sending Kelley to the tail and Allen to pit road, where he would remain for several laps. Froling, who had joined the lead duo before the incident, took control and sailed along out front. Kelley made his way back up through the pack and got to second with 10 laps to go. On lap 34, the duo touched, sending Jim around and bringing out another yellow. Kelley took the blame, giving Froling the lead back and on he zipped to the big win and the title. Rookie Kyle DeLisle wrapped up a great Toledo season by taking second, Greg Stilwell was strong in third, Tom Adams Jr. was fourth and Kelley Jr. fifth, followed by Chad Stilwell, Randy Cornett, Scott Lockenhour, Norm Lewallen and Andy Harding. Greg Stilwell and Tom O'Leary IV took the heat wins. Allen set quick time at 17:290.
"The Rebel" Dennis Whisman cruised to victory and the 2010 title in the 25 lap ARCA Figure 8 main event. Randy Roberts took the lead on the green and held the point for 5 circuits until Whisman motored by to take command. Dennis tucked in and out of intersection traffic on his way to the victory and the championship. Robbie Loving was second, Roberts third, Sam Hall fourth and Anthony Terris fifth, with Allen Bland Sr., Archie Padgett, James Rae, Stephanie Bradley and Nick Bradley completing the top ten finishers. Terris and 2009 Word Figure 8 champ Ben Tunny took the heats. Tunny dropped out of the feature early in the event.
With Cory McCaughey and Landon Schuster battling for the ARCA Factory Stock crown, the action was tense. And in a strange twist to the plot, both had to drop out of the 25 lap Championship race when they were victims of accidents during the contest. Todd Perkins led the first 7 laps, but got crossed up with Mike Hacker in the front straight. Todd ended up plowing into the foam blocks in turn 1, ending his night. McCaughey had no place to go and ended up with a flat tire, while the incident also took out Dusty Brunt and Randy Padgett. Mike Hammer was now the leader when the race went back to green. Just a few laps later, a spin involving several cars collected Schuster, also with a flat and front end damage. With the top 2 point men out, the race resumed and Hammer held onto his lead for the victory. Eric Huston, Rick Cousino Sr., Brian Graybill, Don Cox, Matt Bunting, Brian Moore, Mark Lavoie, Hacker and John Rabideau were next in line to round out the top ten. In the final point tally, Landon Schuster edged Cory McCaughey by just 5 points to notch his first-ever track championship. In a great gesture, McCaughey walked all the way across the track from the back pit area to the front straight to high-five Landon, who praised Cory in his post-race interview. Hammer, Craig Osenbaugh and TJ Miller took the heat race wins. Huston set fast time at 11:828.
Brad Turner defended his 2009 title in style, taking the lead with 5 laps to go to seal up his track championship via the victory in the 15 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder contest. Perry Marlow had the lead for 9 laps while Turner worked hard on the outside lane to get by Perry's son, Mike, and eventually Perry for the lead and the win. Michael Marlow got by his dad for second, Perry was third and David Katafiaz was fourth. Mike Marlow won the heat, with Turner's fast time in time trials was a lap of 12:525.
