USAC Silver Crown to Race at Toledo for First Time October 16; Rollie Beale 150 on Tap
(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 24, 2010) - For the first time in the history of both the United States Auto Club (USAC) and Toledo Speedway, the famed Silver Crown cars will appear on Saturday, October 16 at the half-mile paved oval. The "Rollie Beale 150" will honor Toledo's very own Rollie Beale, a past champion in USAC and a former director of the Sprint Car Series.
The USAC Regional Midget Series will serve as the supporting race for the race date at the Glass City oval this fall. The Silver Crown cars, a mainstay on the USAC trail for many, many years, will tackle Toledo's fast paved oval for 150 laps.
USAC has agreed to lease the speedway for this historic event, but the sanctioning body is no stranger to Toledo track management and race fans. Dating back to the 1970's, Toledo has been the site of both USAC Sprint and Midget events, with a double-header of the 2 divisions highlighting the Hemelgarn Racing-sponsored night of open-wheel racing for the past 4 seasons.
In addition, another first will take place September 11 as the USAC Ford Focus Midgets are scheduled to make their initial trip to Toledo as part of the Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 200 weekend for the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards. The Ford Focus Midgets will compete on the Saturday, September 11 race card with the practice and qualifying session for the ARCA Series also to take place that day.
"We are very pleased to announce the scheduling of the USAC Silver Crown race at Toledo for October 16," stated Ron Drager, co-owner of the track and President of ARCA. "And we are very honored that USAC has named the event after Rollie Beale, who has been a friend to Toledo Speedway and short track racing for many decades. "The race marks a milestone for both groups, and having Rollie here makes it very, very special."
Taking into account the college football schedules of both Toledo and Ohio State, and the television broadcast of the NASCAR race from Charlotte, USAC officials have set up a schedule that accommodates fans of both sports for the October 16 date.
Pit registration begins at 9 a.m., with practice to start at Noon. The front gates and ticket office will also open at Noon. Time trials begin at 2 p.m. and the USAC Regional Midget Series heats begin at 3, followed by their feature. The Rollie Beale 150 for the Silver Crown machines will close out the day of racing and Toledo Speedway's 2010 racing season.
Tickets will go on sale at the track Tuesday, September 7 and are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. Cash, VISA and Mastercard are accepted for walk-in or phone orders. The track phone number is 419-727-1100. Toledo Speedway is located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit on the Michigan-Ohio border.
