Strong Late Model Field Readies for Butch Giles Memorial 100 at Flat Rock

(FLAT ROCK, Mich. - July 28, 2010) - Entries continue to arrive for the Saturday, July 31 Butch Giles Memorial 100, the ARCA Allegiant Air Late Model Gold Cup Series finale to be held at Flat Rock Speedway. The event will decide the 2010 Gold Cup champion from the series of five events between Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways. The race has been named in honor of Butch Giles, a long-time sponsor and car owner at both tracks. Giles passed away prior to the start of the 2010 season.

Current Series points leader Scott Hantz, 2009 champ Mike Root, current Flat Rock points leader and former track champ Paul Pelletier, three-time Flat Rock champ Eric Lee, former Flat Rock and Toledo champs Dennis Strickland and Ron Allen, three-time Gold Cup king Harold Fair Jr., 2010 Flat Rock winner Ricky Kargel, past Flat Rock champs Stan Yee Jr., Royce Cornett, and Joe Hawes, and rising star Chad Finley are just a few of the drivers that will battle in the 100-lap contest Saturday evening at the quarter-mile paved oval.

Hantz has two Toledo wins this season, finished third at Flat Rock in just his second appearance at "The Rock," and is coming off a big win in the CRA 300-lap event at Anderson Speedway in Indiana Monday night. Root may be the hottest driver in the tri-state area, with several wins in Michigan, including the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock in June. The Grand Rapids, Mich. driver has been extremely competitive at each track he has competed at this season. Pelletier has a win at Flat Rock and several second-place finishes this year, and has been very quick in recent weeks, while Allen is fresh off a win last Saturday night at Flat Rock.

"We are still expecting a field of 25 to 30 cars for the race," said Ron Drager, owner and promoter of the track. "We encourage our racers to enter early so the fans know who will be at the track for these bigger shows."

The 100-lap race pays $2000 to win and $425 to start. A field of 25-35 Late Models is expected for the race, and a total of 24 cars will take the green flag. The track's Figure 8 and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will also be in action.

Hantz holds a 15-point lead over Root heading into the final series event of the season. Hantz has won two of the events at Toledo, with Fair Jr. taking the other Toledo race. Root captured the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock in June and is the defending champion of the Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series. Both Hantz and Root have been very successful throughout the Michigan-Ohio-Indiana area this summer.

The top three in the final Gold Cup points will each receive two (2) round trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Air. The Series also receives three (3) provisional starting positions for the 22nd running of the Glass City 200 presented by Cherry Picked Auto Parts, set for Saturday, October 2 at Toledo Speedway.

Flat Rock's Saturday, July 31 schedule will see the pit area opening at 1:30 p.m., practice beginning at 3, time trials at 5, and racing at 7.

There is no advance ticket sale for the event. All tickets go on sale just prior to practice Saturday afternoon, July 31. Flat Rock Speedway is located on Telegraph Road, just 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480. Log onto http://www.flatrockspeedway.com/ for more information.
