Pelletier, Vanderhoof, Selmi Notch Budweiser Triple 50s Wins

(FLAT ROCK, Mich. - July 10, 2010) - Mother Nature finally relented on the extreme heat and granted fans and teams great conditions for the Budweiser Triple 50s and Fireworks show at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night. Paul Pelletier, Jeremy Vanderhoof, and Scott Selmi grabbed the 50-lap feature wins, while Steve Chartrand took the 20-lap Street Stock B Main honors in front an enthusiastic crowd. Each driver received a trophy, Budweiser mirror, and cap, courtesy of Floral City Beverage/Budweiser. The evening concluded with the traditional fireworks display.

Twenty-three ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models took the green flag for their 50-lap contest, with pole sitter Mike Root jumping out front, shadowed by fellow front row starter Ricky Kargel. Root chose the high lane and stayed there, as Kargel never let Root get more than two car lengths away. Pelletier, who started fourth in the seven-car inversion, jumped to the high lane and got around Kargel on Lap 29 for second spot. After a brief yellow flag, Pelletier dove under Root heading into Turn 1 on Lap 31 and made the move pay off as he took control and stayed out front for the win. selmivlfr071010.jpgRoot was second, Kargel third, fourth went to Ron Allen and Dennis Strickland was fifth, followed by Joe Hawes, Eric Lee, Jim Thiel, Royce Cornett, and Stan Yee Jr. Lee set quick time for the 24-car field at 11.708 seconds. Heat race winners were Steve Peters, Yee Jr., and Brad Birr.

Defending champ Dan Ford Jr. appeared to have things in order in the 50-lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main event, but things changed quickly. On the green flag, Selmi made it three- wide with a darting move to the bottom, overtaking Clyde McKee and Dave Tanner. Selmi set sail out front but Ford picked his way to second by Lap 10 and reeled in the leader. Ford dove under Scott on Lap 21 to take the point and motored along out front. On the Lap 30 restart, Ford's machine began to slow, giving Selmi and a flying Mike Jaynes new life. Jaynes took to the high groove and grabbed the lead with Selmi following suit. Ford dropped out several laps later, as did early front runner Chad Guinn. The duo of Jaynes and Selmi diced back and forth until Selmi slipped under Jaynes on Lap 37 and held on for his first win. Jaynes finished second, Tanner was third, Tim Moore fourth, and rookie Frank Giovani fifth. Jeff Kurzyniec, Danny Slater, Rich Frantz, Dennis Whisman, and McKee completed the top ten.  chartrandvlfr071010.jpgOn the cool-down lap, Moore and Jaynes crashed, sending both cars into the backstretch wall. Both drivers emerged unharmed.

A wild DTS Drive Train Specialists 20-lap Street Stock B Main saw just seven cars from the 19-car starting field left on the track after 10 laps. Steve Chartrand led the entire distance to grab the win, but he had plenty of company up front in the closing laps. Dennis Randall dogged Chartrand for the final 10 circuits, and a late charge by Darrell Krause made things exciting. Krause jumped to the outside with four to go, getting by Randall and setting his sights on the win. On the final lap and with his last shot at victory, Krause got up into the backstretch wall hard, while Chartrand took the checkered flag over Randall, Donald Burkhart, Billy Cronce, Jimmy Little, Jeff Metpdennigen, Krause, Tom Freeman Jr., James Rae, and Paul Falkenburg. Ford Jr. led the 46-car Street Stock field with a lap of 13.503 seconds, with Falkenburg the fast man for the B Main field at 14.082.

The ARCA Figure 8 division ran an all-green flag 50-lap contest as Jeremy Vanderhoof collected his second win of the year and made it two in a row. vanderhoofvlfr071010.jpgJames Rae took the lead on the green flag, but gave way to Jerry Lee on Lap 6. Lee's time out front was short, as Gary Cronenwett took the lead on Lap 8. Vanderhoof moved quickly from his 12th starting spot through the pack, and Greg Studt followed, making it a three-car battle for the lead. Just past the halfway mark, Cronenwett had to hit the brakes to avoid a lapped car, giving Vanderhoof no place to go but into the back of Cronenwett, which turned him sideways and into the infield. Cronenwett righted his machine quickly and rejoined the event. Vanderhoof stayed out front to grab the win over Studt, Dennis Whisman, Cronenwett, Lee, Anthony Terris, Rae, Stephanie Bradley, Sam Hall, and Chuck Pankow. Vanderhoof led the Figure 8s in time trials with a lap of 20.614 seconds on the Figure 8 course.
