Root, Hantz Continue Gold Cup Battle July 9; Race the First of Back-to-Back Late Model Events

(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 6, 2010) - Fresh off his second win in two events, Mike Root is expected to return to Toledo Speedway Friday, July 9 for the 75-lap ARCA Allegiant Air Late Model Gold Cup event. Root leads Indiana hotshoe Scott Hantz by just five points entering the fourth race of the five-race series. Late Model fans will also have the opportunity to see back-to-back Late Model races as Flat Rock Speedway will run a 50-lap event the following night, Saturday, July 10.

Root has collected a pair of wins in his last two outings. He captured the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 in dominating fashion at Flat Rock on June 26, and backed that win up by taking the Firecracker 100 at Auto City Speedway in Flint, Mich. on Sunday night. Root has never won at Toledo, but has second- and fourth-place finishes to his credit at the half-mile paved oval this season.

For the only time this season, area Late Model fans will get the chance to see back-to-back Late Model events in the same weekend. After Friday's contest at Toledo, Flat Rock Speedway will host a 50-lap contest as part of the Budweiser Triple 50s and Fireworks show on Saturday, July 10. The annual event features 50-lap main events for each class: the Moran Chevrolet Late Models, DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks, and the Figure 8s. The evening will be capped off with a big fireworks show.

Friday's Toledo Late Model race is the final event for the class at the Glass City oval prior to the season-ending Glass City 200 presented by Cherry Picked Auto Parts, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 2.

The Friday, July 9 Toledo schedule has the pit area opening at 2:30, practice at 4:30, time trials at 6:15, and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Flat Rock's Saturday, July 10 schedule will see the pit area opening at 2 p.m., practice at 3:30, time trials at 5, and racing at 7 p.m.

There is no advance ticket sale for either event. All tickets will go on sale just prior to practice time at each track on race day.
