(5-28-10) - Ricky Kargel missed opening night but made his first race of the year count by taking the victory. It is his, third career win in the Super Late Models. "It was a good race. I want to thank my family and crew and sponsors for all the help," said the driver of the #18.
Paul Pelletier was the fast qualifier. Paul passed the most car in the race... he tangled with Eric Lee and had to restart at the rear (along with Lee) and finished sixth.
Rookie Corner:
With five rookies vying for the Rookie of the Year title, 2010 should be interesting. Matthew Bullock is the unofficial Rookie of the Race this week finishing a career high seventh in only his fifth race in a SLM. His sponsors are Limelight Motorsports and ABC Plumbing.
Jimmy Alvis "Great night for our sponsor Krisp Krunchy Chicken. They came down and passed out samples of their chicken during autograph session. We first in our heat race (first career late model win) and the feature, tangled with another car and dropped out with a flat tire. But a pretty good night all in all." Alvis finished 18th.
Chuck Lindenmuth finished 14th the second highest finishing rookie.
Kenny Matthews won the consi race, his first late model (and oval track win). He finished 15th in the feature.
Our fifth rookie, Derrick Sheppard was unable to transfer to the feature, finishing fifth in the consi (the top four transferred to the feature).
Paul Calo broke the steering coming out of the gate for his heat race and was done for the night.
Steve Cronenwett (Sr.) was in his son's car. "Came out to shake the car down and ended up on the pole." It's the first time other than when he raced in the Lincoln Welders Truck Series that he's raced anything other than his familiar #07.
Tim Moore won the Street Stock A division feature, it is his 13th career ARCA Street Stock win. "I heard him (Dan Ford Jr.) back there the last three laps. It sure seemed like a lot of laps, more like 100. I want to thank everyone for their help and my sponsors," said the driver of the #83.
Jason Shinn surpassed last race's career best finish (fourth) with a third place finish tonight.
Darrell Krause finished eighth, his best A main finish. "This year has been good so far thanks to my brother Marvin and Nick Shanks for the work they have done to the car. We are still in 10th in the points and hoping to continue the season in the top ten."
Opening night winner Chad Guinn didn't have as good night today. He hit the backstretch wall with Jeff Kurzyniec. After changing a tire on a red he came back to finish 12th. I didn't have his sponsors after his win. Chad wanted to thank: Gonyea Auto Parts, Newport Auto Repair, Dixie Party Store, Guinn Chiropractic, Hedges Used Cars.
After 25 years of trying... Billy Cronce II finally got his feature win. "First, I'd like thank the fans for coming to Flat Rock ... .Love all them. Thank you to my crew chief, Scott Marshall. He's been with me since 1986 and his wife Cindy for being so patient. My son, Billy III, he's a big help just remembering what we need to bring every week....And Jim and Becky Alvis (64 LM), they keep reminding me what the big peddle does. And too someone that wasn't able to make it there that night, Tammi, she's been more help so far then she'll ever know. I hope to pull in a few more wins this year. And hopefully give the fans something to talk about when they get home. It was a rough winter then losing an a new motor opening night we didn't have much hope for this year. I hope this is the start of a turn around we needed for the Cronce Racing team," said the driver of the unsponsored #60.
Robbie Loving won the Figure 8 feature. It was his 29th Figure 8 feature, putting him in a tie with Gary Earley for eighth on the all time Figure 8 win list. "I would like to thank my sponsors RJS Safety Equipment, Blossom Florist, Marlow's Bar and Grill, Flo-Air, Stoney Creek Auto Parts, and Limelight Motorsports. This was one of the best races in a long time. I really liked the pass between two cars ... I would like to dedicate this race in memory of our sweetheart "Ashley" and our favorite painter Jim Forsythe."
