Canadian Driver Kyle DeLisle Takes Big Toledo Win

TOLEDO, OH (5-14-10)-- Rookie driver Kyle DeLisle notched a big win in Friday night's 7-up 35 lap ARCA Sportsman feature race at Toledo Speedway. Dennis Whisman made it 2 for 2 in the wild Figure 8 Main, while James Hazlett zipped to victory in the ARCA Factory Stock feature event. The track hosted Scout Night on a cool and dry evening.
The Sportsman race saw 2009 Rookie of the Year Kenny McKay Jr. leading the pack, looking solid out front. The pack was battling hard for position and on lap 14 Tom Adams Jr. and Dave Arnold Jr. banged wheels, sending Arnold, who was in the outside lane, hard into the turn 3 wall. Dave was ok but he was done for the night. On the restart, Jim Froling, who had made his way up through the field, took the lead on lap 16 with Ron Allen also on the march. The duo ran nose to tail for the remainder of the event until the pair tangled on lap 33 in turn 2. The yellow appeared, sending both cars to the tail and giving Kyle DeLisle the lead. Kyle, who had been consistent and riding in third, held on for his big win in just his second start. Adams Jr. came home second, Norm Lewallen third, Allen came back for fourth and Scott Lockenhour was fifth. Chad Stilwell, Rich Abel, Andy Harding, Froling and Tom O'Leary IV rounded out the top ten. Lewallen and O'Leary IV took the heat wins, with Allen setting quick time at 17:211.
The all-green flag 20 lap ARCA Figure 8 feature was action-packed, and the complete field was inverted for the race, making for great entertainment. Four drivers took turns leading, with Nick Bradley leading lap 1, but gave way to his father-in-law, Chuck Pankow, on lap 2. Robbie Loving steamed by on lap 4 and darted in and out of traffic with some wild intersection shots. Well, on lap 15, Loving tangled with Bradley, giving Dennis Whisman the lead and sailing to his 2nd win in 2 events for 2010. Loving came back for second, Anthony Terris was third, Troy Herrmann fourth and Chuck Pankow fifth, followed by Sam Hall, Allen Bland Sr., James Rae, Stephanie Bradley and Tom O'Leary Jr. Herrmann and Whisman notched the heat race wins.
With just 4 laps to go, James Hazlett dipped low and got by race-long leader Ramon Ortiz to grab the all-green flag 20 lap ARCA Factory Stock main event. Ortiz hung in the bottom groove and appeared to be on his way to the victory, but Hazlett had other ideas. James nosed low in turn 2, grabbing the lead and taking the checkered flag over Cory McCaughey, Ortis, Rick Cousino Sr. and Ryan Beabout, the top five at the stripe. Mike Hammer, Tim Shine, Landon Schuster, TJ Miller and Don Cox were next in line. Eric Huston, Craig Osenbaugh and Jeff Braun were the heat race winners. McCaughey set fast time at 11:989.
