Hantz Enters Allegiant Air Gold Cup Event for Apr 17 Toledo Opener; ASA/ARCA Double Header

TOLEDO OH (3-22-10) - Pleasant Lake, IN driver Scott Hantz, arguably the hottest Midwest Late Model driver in 2009, has filed his entry for the season-opening ARCA Allegiant Air Gold Cup race at Toledo Speedway  Saturday, April 17.  The race will be part of a Late Model double-header that will be headlined by the ASA North Late Model Series.

ASA will promote the event to kick off the 2010 racing season at the Glass City oval.  The ASA cars will run a 125 lap main event, while the ARCA Late Models will battle in heat races, a last-chance race (if necessary) and a 75 lap feature on the big, fast ½ mile paved oval.

"Hurricane" Hantz won 4 of 5 events at Toledo in 2009, including all 3 Gold Cup races at the track and the CRA Late Model event.  He also scored numerous wins throughout Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.  Scott almost pulled off a complete Toledo sweep but dropped out of the Glass City 200 while leading the event.  Hantz will once again wheel the #72 machine, owned by Dick Poe of Angola, IN.  Hantz has filed an entry for all 5 of the events in 2010, which includes 2 stops at Flat Rock, MI Speedway.

Former Flat Rock and Toledo track champion Dennis Strickland has also entered the Gold Cup 5-race Series, along with Canton, MI youngster Justin Schroeder.  Entries were mailed last week and are just beginning to arrive at the track offices.

The April 17 contest marks the first time the ASA stock-bodied cars and the ARCA outlaw-style body Late Models will compete on the same race card.  Drivers from 6 states and Canada are expected for the event, which is being promoted by ASA boss Ron Varney.

An optional Friday practice session has been set.  The April 16 schedule has practice for both groups from 1 p.m. -5:30 p.m.  An opening day get-together for fans and teams will take place in the newly-renovated Speedway Bar and Grille after practice, featuring food and drink specials, along with the telecast of the ARCA Racing Series event from Texas Motor Speedway at 7 p.m., live on SPEED.

Saturday will see a short practice session for each group, beginning at 10 a.m.  Qualifying starts at 12:30 and racing begins at 3 p.m.  Tickets are $18 for adults, children 6-14 are $3 and under 6 are free.  A rain date of Sunday, April 18 has been established.  For additional information, go to http://www.asalatemodels.com/ or http://www.toledospeedway.com/
