Look Out! Figure 8 Train Races Set for Seven Dates

TOLEDO, Ohio (January 21, 2010)--It's track announcer Gary Lindahl's classic line, "Look Out!" when the ARCA Figure 8's zip in and out of the intersection. Lindahl will have more of those blaring over the microphone as the increasing popularity of the Figure 8 Train races has prompted Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway management to schedule 7 of the events for the 2010 racing season.

Figure 8 Train racing features 2 cars chained together...the front car has the engine, the back car has the brakes, so you get the picture!  And the action with the Train races has begun to resemble the track's famed Figure 8 class.  In fact, several of the Figure 8 drivers have built "trains" and are now competing in these events.  Former Toledo Sportsman champ Howard Kelley Jr. has teamed with fellow Sportsman pilot Tom O'Leary III and has won a good share of the races, but now Figure 8 king Dennis "The Rebel" Whisman and others have joined in, creating a wild and entertaining event.

With the driver flying into the intersection with no brakes on the lead car, bumping and slamming is at a premium, much to the delight of the crowd.  Based on the fan support and the response to the race, the number of Figure 8 Train races has increased from 4 to 7 for the upcoming season.  The dates are:  Flat Rock-May 15, June 19 and August 7, all Saturdays; and Toledo, May 28, June 25, August 20 and September 3, all Friday night events.

Each Figure 8 Train race pays $750 to the winning team, with $100 posted for 10th spot.
