Hantz Owns Toledo; Captures CRA Event

TOLEDO, OH: (8-14-09): For the most part, the large crowd that ventured to Toledo Speedway came to see NASCAR star Kyle Busch. Scott Hantz had his own ideas and has a big fan following that cheered him on, however, as Hantz made it 4 for 4 at the Glass City oval by capturing the Allen Chevrolet/Crown RV and Boat Cleaner 100 for the CRA Super Series Late Models. John Ogren of Allen presented the trophy and Hantz climbed the fence after his win as the crowd roared.

Busch arrived from Michigan International Speedway in time to qualify, timing in 2nd quick behind fast qualifier John VanDoorn, who led the 28 car field at 15:437.  Kyle signed autographs for nearly an hour for the throng of fans that gathered in the spectator concourse.

JR Roahrig took the lead on the green flag and had heat on its way as Kyle Busch and Hantz quickly started making moves.  6 cars were inverted and Roahrig held the point as Busch got to second, only to have Hantz slip under him going down the back chute on lap 12.  On lap 15, Busch tagged the back straight wall, bringing out the yellow and ending his night.  Hantz had winning on his mind again as he steamed to the front on lap 21 and never looked back.  The only thing that slowed Scott was several yellow flags for numerous minor incidents.  A long 60 lap stretch of green really gave the Pleasant Lake, IN driver a great opportunity to show his strength, as he sailed to win number 4 in 4 tries at Toledo this year.  Roahrig was second, Boris Jurkovic was third with a late-race charge, Rick Turner was fourth and Nick Diano completed a great run in his first race with CRA to take fifth.  Tyler Roahrig, Brent Jack, Kenny Tweedy, Nick Lay and Terry Fisher Jr. completed the top ten.

A great 3 car battle that saw the top 3 each take a turn with the lead ended with Terry Jones taking the win by a car length over Ron Allen and Howard Kelley Jr. in the 35 lap ARCA Sportsman feature race.  The race had to be restarted when a pack of cars tangled at the start, eliminating defending champ Jim Froling.  Kelley Jr. took off and held the point until Allen grabbed the lead.  Jones came back and went by Allen, setting up a great 3 car battle for the final 10 laps.  Jones, Allen, Kelley Jr., Art Rozane and first-time visitor Donny Atwell completed the top five, with Tom O'Leary IV, Lou Hill, Norm Lewallen, Chad Stillwell and Kenny McKay Jr. were next in line to complete the top ten.  Allen set fast time for the 20 car field at 17:430.

Current point leader Eric Huston edged Cory McCaughey to win the 20 lap ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock main event.  Josh Bunting was the early leader until Huston nosed under Josh on lap 13.  Eric held off a strong challenge from McCaughey to grab the victory.  Bunting was third, Landon Schuster was fourth and Tim Shine fifth, with Matt Ringger, Dave Arnold Jr., Brian Ringger, Mike Hammer and Craig Osenbaugh took sixth through tenth, respectively.  A 3-wide finish at the stripe saw John Rabideau grab his second straight win in the 10 lap B Main over Ramon Ortiz, Dusty Brunt, Kent Jones, Mike Hacker, Andy Holly, Dylan Winterhalter and Dan Gregg.  Hammer, Archie Padgett and Ryan Beabout took heat race wins, while Brian Moore notched the last-chance race victory.  Huston set fast time for the 26 car field at 11:904.

Brad Turner continued his winning ways, taking the lead on lap 13 on his way to the checkered flag in the 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder feature.  Perry Marlow led the first 12 laps as Turner worked the high side, caught Perry and sailed to the win.  Matt Brazeau was tough, also on the outside lane, working his way to second at the finish, with Perry third, Michael Marlow fourth and David Price fifth, followed by Nick Walentowski and Dave Stadniczuk.  Turner posted fast time at 12:846.

Friday, August 21 is the Glass Bowl Lanes Autograph Night at Toledo Speedway.  Fans can walk onto the track and meet the ARCA Sportsman, Figure 8, Factory Stock and 4 Cylinder drivers!  The pit gates open at 3:30, practice begins at 5, time trials are at 6, the on-track autograph session goes at 7 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  The front gates open at 5.
