Bennett Grabs First Ever Enduro 250 Win at Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK, MI: (8-1-09): Danny Bennett's years of competition paid off Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway as he claimed the win in the 250 lap Enduro race on a cool, cloudy evening. Shawn Bershback took the 4 Cylinder main and the duo of Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O'Leary III captured a wild 10 team Figure 8 Train race. The TKC Go-Kart Club also ran several events.
Bennett grabbed the lead on the green and battled with Jeff Metdepenningen for a better part of the first 100 laps.  Favorite Tristan Dupuis and current Enduro point leader Jeff Maran got stuck in traffic and quickly went down a lap early in the race.  Heavy traffic played a part in the event the entire distance, along with several red flags.  Bennett charged hard to the front and held the point from lap 95 to the end.  A pair of back to back red flags saved Danny, as he stalled on the first one and then the next red immediately came out when Anthony Camilli stalled and Chuck Stoos slammed into him.  Both drivers were ok.  Bennett dropped his car to the infield and the car re-started.  He was placed back on the track in the same location and answered the bell when the green came back out.  He grabbed the win over Jeff Metdepenningen, Maran, Dupuis, Rick Johnson, Ricky Kargel, Robb Remick, Derrick Sheppard, Tom Sprotberry and Marc Ortega.  35 cars started the contest.

The all-green flag 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder main event saw Tony Thomas jump into the lead at the start, with Perry Marlow taking over the point on lap 2.  Shawn, starting in 10th spot, made a quick dash to the front and assumed command of the race on lap 4 and sailed on to the win.  Brad Turner was second, Ray McClure third, Michael Marlow fourth and David Price fifth, followed by Dave Stadniczuk, Perry Marlow, Alex Haggart, Jennifer Cronce and Thomas.  Perry Marlow took the heat race win, with Bershback's fast time with a lap of 15:097.

A great field of ten 2-car teams made for a very entertaining and exciting Figure 8 Train race.  With spins all over the Figure 8 course, the action was hilarious the entire 15 lap distance.  Howard Kelley Jr. and Tom O'Leary III nipped Tom's father, Tom Jr. and his teammate Troy Brehmer to win the event.  Lonnie York and Dennis Whisman came on fast in the closing laps to take third, Tom O'Leary IV/Adam Plonski took fourth and Anthony Camilli/Shawn Young came in fifth spot.  Anthony Terris/Bill Carberry, Randy Roberts/Ronnie Duvall, Rich Abel/Joey Whisman, Billy Earley/Dan Apperson and Scott Apperson/Jeremy Fragassi were next in line.  The event was cheered loudly by the crowd as they roared their approval throughout the race.

The TKC Go-Kart Club saw 19 karts ran several heats and feature races.  Charlie LaFollette Jr., Anthony Prior, Mike Phillips and Kyle Sneed captured their heat races.  Feature race wins went to Anthony Terris, LaFollette Jr., Prior and Sneed.  The club competes on Sunday afternoons at Flat Rock.
