Toledo Speedway 50th Anniversary: A Look Back at 1980

1980-BOB SENNEKER SCORES 100-LAP FEATURE

Toledo Speedway held its first extra-distance affair of the season and it was the "Bluebird" Bob Senneker taking the twin 50-lap features in his signature late model #84. Senneker, a frequent Toledo Speedway visitor, has tasted success consistently at Toledo as well as in major high-dollar payout late model races throughout the Midwest US and Canada.

The fastest 10 qualifiers were inverted for the initial start and Bob Keselowski jumped out to the early lead. He was passed on lap 20 by Senneker, who was overtaken by Chuck Roumell on lap 30. The duo put on a fantastic show, swapping the lead back and forth until Senneker took command on lap 45 to lead at the 50-lap halfway break. The second segment started with Roumell gunning past Senneker and leading comfortably until he was forced out on lap 63 with mechanical woes. Senneker then led to the finish ahead of Randy Sweet, Ray Barnard, Terry Senneker, Canadian Don Mallot and surprise visitor Joe Ruttman. Dave Simko led the 30-car field in qualifying with a lap of 16.49 seconds.
