Remembering Steve Sauve
Steve Sauve, the only driver to win three consecutive Glass City 200 late model races at Toledo Speedway, passed away Dec. 11, 2024, at the age of 66 at Healthsource Saginaw near his home in Michigan.
Sauve’s unparalleled three straight wins in the Glass City 200 ties him with Bob Senneker as the only 3-time winners in the event’s 36-race history, and that is only a small part of an amazingly successful driving career which started in 1976 and continued for 37 years. A 2003 inductee of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame, Sauve won nearly 150 super late model feature races in his signature #97, many of them of the highest profile. Victories in major races including the Harvest 100 at Spartan Speedway, the Mudslinger 100 and Patriot 150 at Auto City Speedway and Hangover 100 at Sandusky Speedway. He recorded multiple victories in highly competitive touring super late model competition including the Iceman Series, AC Delco Challenge Series and Main Event Series. He is a 15-time track champion combined at Tri-City Speedway, Auto City Speedway and Dixie Motor Speedway.
Sauve, a machinist by trade for over 40 years at Saginaw Industries, is survived by his wife Sheryl Stevens, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Steven Sauve. Cremation has taken place and visitation beginning at 3pm will conclude with a Memorial Service at 7pm Thursday, December 19 at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., Saginaw Michigan www.snowfuneralhome.net. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Mary Free Bed Rehab or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
