GOLD CUP CHAMP NEEDLES LOOKS FOR 200 VICTORY

Recently-crowned ARCA Royal Truck and Trailer Late Model Gold Cup champion Steve Needles leads the next wave of entries received for the 200 lap classic this Saturday night. Steve will be looking for his initial Glass City victory. In the 2012 event, Needles car blew the engine while leading just 4 laps from the checkered flag.

Additional entries have arrived from the Plymouth, IN father-son team of JR and Tyler Roahrig, Middleville, MI racer Brian Bergakker, Ohio driver Emerson Huffman and local driver Tom Cronenwett.

BEWARE OF THE SETTING SUN!

The start time of the 200 was moved back 1 hour for this year’s event to 6 p.m. The drivers were nearly blinded by the setting sun in the 2015 race. Last night’s brilliant sunset over turn 1 at Toledo was an indication that the start time may have to be set back a bit further Saturday night.

If the sun is an issue, the on-track autograph session will be extended and the driver introductions and additional pre-race ceremonies will fill the gap. 3-time consecutive Glass City 200 winner Steve Sauve will serve as Grand Marshal for the event.

Saturday’s activities begin with practice at 1 p.m., the run for the PASSTIME $500 Pole Award starts at 3:30, an on-track autograph session will take place at 5 and racing begins at 6 p.m. The past winners of the Glass City 200 that are on hand will be introduced during the evening.

Additional sponsors for the Glass City 200 include Penske Shocks, R & M Recycling, Bazell Race Fuels, Sunoco Race Fuels, First Care Ambulance, Burge Wrecking, DTS Drive Train Specialists and Cassens Transport.

Toledo Speedway officials are replacing the lap money program for the Glass City 200 with a “Pad the Purse” program. The cash bonus raised is above and beyond the posted purse, just as the lap money did. The bonus spots would be positions 6th through 15th. The minimum sponsorship would be $10, just as with the lap money program. The goal is to add $2000 to the purse, the same amount as the 200 laps of lap money at $10 per lap. Performance Images, Ray’s Door of Toledo, Naughton Insurance, the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club, Paul and Iris Anton, Monroe Asphalt of Toledo, Great Lakes Racing Frequencies, Scott McIlwain, Hammer’s Towing, LV Alliance, Rand Thompson in Memory of Joy Fair and Northwest Trailer have pledged their support to the program.

To become a “Pad the Purse” sponsor, contact the Toledo office at 419-727-1100.

The entry list will be updated daily and is located on the track home page in the next race box.
