TOLEDO SPEEDWAY THROWBACK THURSDAY

TOLEDO SPEEDWAY THROWBACK THURSDAY

The legendary Dick Trickle gets ready for the Glass City 200 in his Ford Mustang at Toledo.  Trickle, from Wisconsin Rapids, WI, made the trip to the Glass City oval for the big season-ending event in 1974.  He qualified 5th, ran to the front of the pack in his very first appearance at the track, only to be involved in an incident that sent him to the rear not once, but twice!  Trickle, in the style that made him one of the winningest short track racers in the nation, stormed through the field to briefly take the lead for 2 laps until mechanical woes ended his day.  How good was Trickle?  He won 67 times in 1972 and 57 in 1973!

Dick would go on to compete in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and won the Rookie of the Year in 1989 at age 48.  He became a test driver for the former IROC Series after his retirement.  Sadly, Trickle passed away in 2013.
