Mason Mitchell tests Toledo half-mile

(TOLEDO, Ohio – May 9, 2014) – Mason Mitchell could have picked a different car to bring with him when he races in the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care next week at Toledo Speedway. But, instead, Mitchell will be behind the wheel of the same short track car that Mason Mitchell Motorsports used at both Mobile Int’l Speedway and Salem Speedway.

“It’s an awesome car,” Mitchell said Thursday while testing it at the high-banked, half-mile of Toledo. “We have cars back at the shop that are ready to rock and roll, but this one has been working for us. Why not keep going?”

Whatever Mitchell has been doing has been working lately. The 19-year-old team owner and driver has a third, a fourth and two seventh-place finishes so far this season and has climbed to second in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards point standings.

Mitchell started sixth and finished seventh last season at Toledo Speedway behind the wheel of a Roulo Brothers Racing car. He tested Thursday in part, he said, because he has a new car and new team and wanted to get everyone acclimated to Toledo Speedway. Veteran crew chief Brad Parrott is making his first trip to the track.

Both brought notebooks of information with them to the test and would compare notes during breaks in the on-track testing.

Mitchell worked on a variety of things during his day-long test, including short runs and long runs. He finished the day with a 40-lap run.

“We’ve got a pretty good race car,” Mitchell said. “Everyone back and the shop, Brad and the guys, have given me a really good race car.”

The Menards 200 will be the 73rd ARCA Racing Series event at Toledo Speedway, dating back to 1963. Ken Schrader is the defending champion.

Discount tickets for the May 18 Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care are available at six Toledo-area Menards stores, including Defiance, Findlay, Holland, Oregon, Sandusky and Toledo North. The tickets are just $15.
