Fans, Drivers Meet Sponge Bob And Win At Toledo

(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 3, 2011) - The best weather of the season graced Toledo Speedway Friday evening for the appearance of Sponge Bob Squarepants and the Marco’s Pizza Autograph session with the drivers. Chef Marco was also on hand to greet the race fans and take part in the night of fun! Ron Allen, Robbie Loving, Dennis Whisman and Mike Marlow notched feature wins. Fans also had the opportunity to shred up to 3 boxes of documents Friday at the track, courtesy of Allshred.
Mike Young jumped into the lead of the 35 lap ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman main event and cruised out front as the pack battled for position in the 17 car field. Allen moved toward the front of the pack and on lap 13 took control and set sail. A pair of yellow flags bunched the field, which erased Allen’s lead and gave Jim Froling a shot at the top spot. In the final 5 laps, Jim got to the bumper but could not get by Allen as he took his 2nd win of the season. Young took third, Greg Stilwell fourth and Kyle DeLisle fifth, followed by Kenny McKay Jr., Howard Kelley Jr., Tom O’Leary IV, Kent McCloskey and Norm Lewallen. Allen set fast time at 17:174, with Stilwell and Scott Bross taking heat race wins.
Robbie Loving sped away from the field and notched the
victory in the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 Main event. Randy Roberts led the first 2 laps until
Scott Apperson zipped by on lap 3. Scott
had pressure immediately from Loving and a host of cars as they crossed at the
intersection. Loving got by on lap 8 and
moved away from the field. At the
stripe, Loving was trailed by Greg Studt, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Dennis Whisman,
Anthony Terris, Randy Roberts, James Rae, Sam Hall, Apperson and Archie
Padgett. Terris and Hall were the heat race
winners.
The ARCA Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinder Main event was a
father-son battle as Mike Marlow edged his dad Perry to take his second win in
a row. Perry led the first 18 circuits
as Mike charged to the low lane, used a lapped car as a pick and snared the
lead on lap 18 on his way to the win.
Perry Marlow took second, Matt Brazeau was tucked in on the bumper of
the leaders for third, David Katafiasz fourth and Jeff Wells fifth, followed by
Brad Turner. Brazeau set quick time at
12:616, while Wells captured his first checkered flag in the heat race.
Dennis “The Rebel” Whisman, doing double duty tonight, has a
ton of laps on the short track at Toledo. Whisman bided his time, used the outside lane
and took the lead on lap 23 and grabbed the win in the 25 lap ARCA R & M
Recycling Street Stock feature race.
Front runner Cory McCaughey suffered a flat tire on the start, and on
the next try Archie Padgett, also doing double duty, took the lead. He looked strong out front for 13 laps, but
got tangled with the lapped car of Pat Fields, ending his night with a
flat. Luke Davis inherited the point and
took off on the green with Whisman in pursuit.
With 2 to go, “The Rebel” sailed by to take command and the win. Davis wound up second, Mike Hammer third, Rich
Frantz was fourth and Craig Osenbaugh fifth, followed by John Rabideau, Dennis
Helsel, Matt Ringger, Kyle Huston and Eric Huston. Heat race wins went to Davis and Fields, who
both claimed their first checkered flags in the heat races. Eric Huston set the fast time at 11:936.
Another great night of fun and entertainment awaits race fans at Toledo Speedway next Friday, June 10. Stanford-Allen Chevrolet-Cadillac will sponsor the racing card, featuring the return of the Buckeye 305 Winged Sprint Cars on the fast ½ mile paved oval. The group made a trip to Toledo May 13, but fell victim to the weather. On the short track, the Parts Galore Figure 8’s and R & M Recycling Street Stocks will also battle for top honors, along with the Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinders.
The June 10 show will conclude with the “Road Course” race, using parts of the ¼ mile, ½ mile and pit road! A variety of race cars will make up the field, in which there is no distinct advantage for anyone! This is the second event of its type held at Toledo. Billy Earley is the defending race winner. The gates will open at 4:30 p.m., time trials at 6 and racing at 7:30 p.m. Log onto www.toledospeedway.com for further information.
