ASA Entry List Grows; Defending ARCA Gold Cup Champ Mike Root, Fair JR. Enter Saturdays Opener

TOLEDO, OH (4-15-10)--  The ASA NORTH LATE MODEL SERIES is ready to open their 2010 season by making the trip to Toledo Speedway for the Glassbreaker Season Opener Saturday afternoon, April 17.  Joining them will be the ARCA Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Models, with a 125 lap feature planned for the ASA North machines, while the ARCA Late Models will run a 75 lap main event.

The ASA NORTH LATE MODEL SERIES entry list is led by veteran Eddie Hoffman.  Josh Nelms, Eric Jones, Phil Bozell, Jared Marks, Brad Plunkett, Pete Vanderwyst, Brandon Wilson, Will Thomas, Jim Duchow, Chris Koslek, Pat Zorn, Seth Moody, Kenny Kirsch Jr., Griffin McGrath, Thomas Woodin, Jesse Saunders, Trevor Dassor and Jordon Sims round out the pre-entries as of Wednesday. 

2009 ARCA Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Model champion Mike Root and 2-time Gold Cup king Harold Fair Jr. are the latest ARCA Late Model entries for Toledo Speedway’s season-opening event. 

Root, a resident of Grand Rapids, MI, captured the 5-race Series last year, which consists of 2 races at Flat Rock, MI Speedway and 3 events at Toledo.  2007/2008 Gold Cup champ Harold Fair Jr. has also filed his entry and will pilot his familiar #71.  The 2010 edition of the series will once again follow the same pattern of 5 events. 

Additional entries for the April 17 opener have been received from the father/son duo of Steve Cronenwett Sr. and Jr., rookie Donald Burkhart, Ohio speedster Jake Francis, former Flat Rock champ Stan Yee Jr., Australian native Andrew Hagen, third-generation driver Tom O’Leary IV and veteran Steve Peters.  They join Scott Hantz, Dennis Strickland, Justin Schroeder, rookie Nick Grodi, Bill Litogot, Chad Guinn (at the wheel of the PB Fabrication car) and Indiana driver Derrick Griffin to round out the entry list as of Wednesday evening. 

The ASA NORTH LATE MODEL SERIES will run a 125 lap main event, while the ARCA Late Models will battle in heat races, a last-chance race (if necessary) and a 75 lap feature on the big, fast ½ mile paved oval. 

The April 17 contest marks the first time the ASA NORTH LATE MODEL SERIES and the ARCA outlaw-style body Late Models will compete on the same race card.  Drivers from 6 states and Canada are expected for the event, which is being promoted by ASA LATE MODEL SERIES boss Ron Varney. 

An optional Friday practice session has been set.  The April 16 schedule has practice for both groups from 1 p.m. -5:30 p.m.  An opening day get-together for fans and teams will take place in the newly-renovated Speedway Bar and Grille after practice, featuring food and drink specials, along with the telecast of the ARCA Racing Series event from Texas Motor Speedway at 7 p.m., live on SPEED.   

Saturday will see a short practice session for each group, beginning at 10 a.m.  Qualifying starts at 12:30 and racing begins at 3 p.m.  An on-track autograph session is planned prior to the feature events. 

Tickets are $18 for adults, children 6-14 are $3 and under 6 are free.  A rain date of Sunday, April 18 has been established.  Toledo Speedway is located at the I-75/Alexis Road exit on the Michigan-Ohio border.
