NOTES OF INTEREST:
The 45th running of the Allen Crowe 100, the state capital city's largest sporting event, takes center stage on the world's fastest mile-dirt track alongside the 155th annual Illinois State Fair, ongoing since 1853.
The event also marks the ARCA RE/MAX Series 323rd event on dirt, which means that nearly 27% of all the ARCA RE/MAX Series races ever sanctioned since its inception in 1953 have been raced on dirt-tracks across America.
In last year's Springfield race, Springfield's very own Justin Allgaier passed veteran Bob Strait on the final lap to secure the thrilling victory and his place in history as the first and only Springfield resident to win a national championship race there in more than 70 years of competition.
Current point leader Frank Kimmel leads a very tight championship points battle headed to Springfield. The 5-time Springfield winner and 8-time series champion leads Phoenix, Arizona rookie Michael McDowell by 80 points. McDowell, coming off back-to-back wins at Kentucky and Pocono, has never raced on dirt.
Outside of Kimmel, Bill Baird is the only other former series champion entered.
Fenton, Missouri's Ken Schrader has filed an entry in Bill Hendren's #66 Ford. Schrader has 1 ARCA win at Springfield back in 1998. NASCAR/Open Wheel veteran Jason Leffler, of Long Beach, California, is also entered.
Illinois drivers entered include Justin Allgaier (Springfield), Kelly Kovski (Springfield), Wes O'Dell (Springfield), Mark Littleton (Arenzville), Joe Cooksey (Centralia), Kenny Adams (Normal), AJ Fike (Galesburg) and Rookie of the Year contender Phillip McGilton (Marion).
